As we celebrate 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐃𝐚𝐲, how about getting into a ‘bookie’ mood and talking to your children about books in a topsy-turvy manner?
Does your book have dog ears?
If it does, then that’s awesome. It means you have read it over and over again.
Have you ever read a book from the back to the front?
If you have, no rules broken. Books don’t mind being read either way.
Is your book much travelled?
You know what, books love to journey – to the park, on a drive, for a picnic or even a train journey.
Do you often keep a book under your pillow? That is wonderful. A book feels very safe under the pillow.
Do you crawl with your book to all kinds of funny places?
If you do, that’s so exciting. Books love adventures- be it on a rocking chair, under a tree, in a lap or even on the floor.
𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝’𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐝.
It takes a village!
I can, You Can, We can.
Hey folks, with the summer on hand, there are more daylight hours to engage our children purposefully.
Children love to . And doodling and painting are great outlets for creativity.
How about painting a graffiti wall with your children?
And if you live in a housing society, how about the common area beautification exercise?
Benefits :
Children get a sense of ownership hinging on excitement
Children learn to work as a . Always better together.
Art teaches patience. You need to plan, design and pay attention to detail. You need perseverance to see your work taking shape.
And I think children need to build this skill the most. Art is not a 2-minute noodle affair.
I put the above thoughts into practice.
Have a look😊
Co-plan your project with your child/children.

Parents, educators and caregivers:
𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐃𝐎 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐖𝐈𝐒𝐇 𝐓𝐎 𝐑𝐎𝐋𝐄 𝐌𝐎𝐃𝐄𝐋 𝐁𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐄 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐋𝐃 ?
A book or a screen ?
A book allows the child to lead.
The screen creates followers.
A book engages the child.
The screen will largely entertain.
A book and a story helps build delayed gratification.
The screen pushes the child to instant gratification.
The choice is yours.
Choose wisely.

Honored to have conducted a session for Class 10 students at Modern Delhi International School, Faridabad.
Their first day of stepping into Class 10 was seasoned with positivity, ownership, resolution and resilience building.
Mindset is everything.
Power of focus and mindfulness is humongous. So cultivate it.
Laugh a lot, practice gratitude and take care of each other.
And we talked about self leadership with many stories, music and laughter thrown in.
I can if I think I can.
And together, we embarked into a precious new session.
A school so ably lead by Prof Verma and Madhu Malik
PLAY
The more children play, the better it is for their physical, emotional and cognitive well-being.
And finally the United Nations has declared June11th to be celebrated as International Day of Play.
is the fundamental right of every child, be it free play or structured play, pretend play or role play.
Every child deserves to play and learn through play.
The adoption of a single day dedicated solely to play, could well lead to play being recognized as a key methodology in all kinds of learning

𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐋𝐃𝐑𝐄𝐍 𝐍𝐄𝐄𝐃 𝐏𝐇𝐘𝐒𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐋 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐓.
Physical rest refers to any activity that helps the body calm down and unwind from a tired state.
Travelling, sitting , listening, and writing for long periods can tire children out.
And contrary to popular belief, physical rest is not only about sleep. It is to do with how the body moves moves to a relaxed state, when awake.
Sleep has its own set of advantages but children should also indulge in other forms of physical rest, such as:
𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐃𝐎 𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐋𝐃𝐑𝐄𝐍 𝐆𝐄𝐓 𝐏𝐇𝐘𝐒𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐋 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐓?
1. By stretching. That is why we recommend yoga and exercise . That is why children need to move so very often. Purposeful movement is a form of rest.
2. Unstructured Play . It could be anything like running. jumping, rolling , whatever kind of movement that the child enjoys.
3. Nature Walk - A lazy walk in the outdoors, the garden or even close to potted plants relaxes the body.
4. Just Dance - Moving and grooving to music actually helps settle frazzled nerves.
𝐖𝐇𝐘 𝐃𝐎 𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐋𝐃𝐑𝐄𝐍 𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓?
Children are wired to experiment.
It is the innate DNA of neurons to want to act. To suppress their movement is to go against Nature.
So when children dress up beyond their years, talk funny or perhaps gross, walk like an Egyptian, dig up the garden and paint the bed and the bedsheets, take a deep breath and calm down before you talk to them.
And talk you must.
Why ?
Many a times they try to rebel to established norms through experimentation. They are testing waters and also joining the dots together.
'What could happen if I be like Sponge Bob?
Can I make fly with my towel?
Why can't I wear lipstick?'
They also to provide an outlet to their energy.
Just as teenagers are plagued by the hormonal dance, toddlers are driven by high energy. Since they lack the vocabulary to verbalize the , they resort to action. Like jump, shout, cry, kick, dive, hide, tear, paste and so on.
Preschoolers are also very egocentric, meaning everything translates to 'I'.
I want to eat that
I want to jump on that
I want to play with that
Till they don't experience it first hand, it will keep playing in their mind.
Children also experiment because they are fearless.
This is one of the most beautiful aspect of childhood. Lack of fear makes them experiment often.
Children who feel safe will always experiment more.
Like swing high, dive in sand or mud, crawl into corners, try weird costumes and so on.
So, till such time their safety is not endangered, let them experiment.
In fact a cause for worry is if your child does not experiment.
The many hats that a teacher wears:
Sometimes she is a 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫 and sometimes a #𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫. At times she leads you through subjects, curriculum and courses. At times, she simply follows you, your thoughts, your experiments, your trials and your joys.
Sometimes she is a 𝐝𝐨𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 and sometimes a 𝐧𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞. At times she tells you what to read, eat and write. At times, she just gathers you in an embrace and dresses your worries, pains and aches.
Sometimes she is the 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 and sometimes an 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫. At times, she will be demanding and tough, asking you to stick to the frame. And at times she will act , sing, dance, get muddy and cheer you like a clown.
Sometimes she will be the 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫 and sometimes the 𝐭𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭. She will learn, un- learn and re- learn just for you.
That's the brave teacher- just for you.

𝐖𝐇𝐘 𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐏𝐄𝐓𝐒 𝐀 𝐆𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐓 𝐀𝐃𝐃𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐓𝐎 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐀𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐘?
For young children, the next best thing to having a sibling, is having a pet.
𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐄𝐓 𝐀𝐃𝐕𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐀𝐆𝐄:
1. Children learn the meaning of selfless love. A pet, especially a dog, will always show love without any rhyme or reason.
2. Children get expressive with a pet around. They talk to the pet, ask questions, give directions and tend to banter a lot with their pet.
3. Pets serve as a sounding board for children, a sort of medium for pent up release. A pet companion tones down their anger, their fidgety mannerisms, their frustration.
4. Pets breed the feeling of empathy amongst children. As children attempt to sense their pet's hunger, their pain, the meaning behind their woof-woof, meow or a twitter, they learn to read the unsaid and have faith on what they feel. A great lesson in emotional literacy.
𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐄𝐓 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐑𝐘:
1. Parents often worry about pets getting ferocious, attempting to bite or damage stuff at home. It actually depends on the upbringing of pets. For eg , if a child has anger issues, aren't we somewhat responsible for it ? Likewise for pets. If we raise them with
affection and care, they will respond similarly.
2. Who will look after the pet ? The simplest answer to that is - when brought up with love, pets find a way into your heart and routine. They will adopt and adapt to your routine. So don't worry too much about that.
Instead of a new gadget, it would be awesome to adopt/ get a pet.
It has far reaching positive outcomes.

Research says that girls for pleasure, more than boys.
Are we missing out something?
As a parent/educator do we encourage girls to read more than we encourage boys to read ?
Do we unconsciouly project that reading is a leisure activity more for girls than for boys?
Do we feel proud that our girls have good reading habits and don't feel the need to intervene in case our boys don't read that much?
Think, introspect and be the change.
