Hi everyone! Hope you are well. I haven't been posting much on this page about my stuff.
Now, with the bustle of Christmas and New Year over, and the decorations put away, I wanted to share some of the Christmas ornaments made post our Craftworks 3.0.
This year, am planning a small collection of Easter craft.. Will post on this page.

Continuing with my patchworking project - this is another old popular patchwork block design, referred to as star in Goa , it's called the friendship star in the US.
The second pic is of a nearly 50 year old quilt hand pieced and quilted, the size 82"x48". That's 6.8ft X 4 ft!!

Hi everyone, am back after a really long time.... Am working on a project on traditional quilts of Goa. Yes, for those who do not know, we have our own version of quilts.. Whole cloth and patchwork... So, to give me an idea of how it must have been to do patchwork 50 years ago, without the " modern tools of the trade",( just using a measuring tape, ruler, scissors and a stencil) I tried my hand at making a couple of blocks...These were popular block designs 50 years ago in Goa..
It's amazing that our ladies made single bed size patchwork quilts, sometimes with rather small patches and hand pieced and hand quilted the whole quilt. It is an arduous task.

Large Christmas stockings 15" in felt with lace and lace appliqué and felt Christmas trees 8"tall.

Am so excited to finally post my range of elf boots for the season... Do zoom in and have a closer look at the work...
There are 20 in all, and every boot is unique in embroidery design... Infact there has been no repetition since I started making them 4 years ago. This is the first time I am selling on the fb.

Today I decided on woven fabric as the raw material for upcycling. The woven fabrics that can be used are clothes/linen no longer in use or tailor waste (fabric waste after cutting out the desired garment). Our Goan godhadi is the best example of upcycling.
I am showcasing a few articles made over the years either for a talk/demo on upcycling, sampling trials or for myself.
1.green bag made from a kurti. 2.fruit bowl made by stitching together crocheted fabric strips 3.mug rugs, these were started during our kantha workshop.. 4.coasters made from side seams of denim jeans 5.accessories made using synthetic tailor waste.
Hope my ideas inspire you to try something on your own..

This Diwali and Christmas, how about making your own gift bags that the receiver will thank you for over and over again? Make a t-shirt gift bag..

Yday I mentioned that I would be putting out my ideas on upcycling. With the pandemic and it's associated problems, plastic has come back in our lives with a vengeance.
So today my raw material is single Jersey tshirts (the popular round neck ones). T-shirt bags are very easy to make (check Pinterest or You tube) and are very versatile.. Carry one in your handbag or leave it in your vehicle, for those last minute shopping sprees. You could also use it as a gift bag - just tie a nice bow and voilà 2 things in 1.
The first photo has 2 styles of t-shirt bags.
Next photo is of hairbands and scrunchies - these are made by braiding 4 or 5 tube strands of a t-shirt and then stitching the ends together... These scrunchies are kinder to your hair than the elastic ones..
The other 2 photos are of jewellery, made from Jersey tubes... You can braid them or macrame them to get these kinds of necklaces.
Come on get those t-shirts you were planning on discarding and start..

Today was a hectic no craft day.... But as I want this to be a upcycled week, am posting a photo of a bag I made as a trial, but I have actually used it...It used to be a sweater!!

There's much being spoken about pollution happening in our little state of Goa and lots of small initiatives are being taken by the people..from Beach cleanups, village cleanups to decluttering and swapping which is simply marvellous as there's less going to the landfills...The upcycling movement is also gaining momentum... Have used a wide range of colours of woollen felt as not everyone is looking for the Christmas colours. These stockings are hand stitched and embellished with different kinds of lace, flowers and sequins.

A few of my earlier ribbon embroidery projects which I got framed this year.

Working on various craft projects was a past time during school holidays.. Like most girls of my generation, I too learned to embroider, but didn't like it, now I know why - we had to embroider the design traced on the fabric... Now I work on ribbon embroidery projects and the design evolves as I go along, sort of free hand embroidery . So every piece is unique.
