New Online Batch for Beginners!

Kalashri Kathak Academy is happy to announce a new online batch starting from the 10th of January, 2024!

Every Wednesday and Thursday
6pm to 7pm IST
Platform: Google Meet

Coaching will be done via Google Meet, plusntutoriap videos and notes will be provided time to time.

Today the girls were at their dance class for revisions and practice of their upcoming exams.

Hastas / Mudras (hand gestures) are primarily classified as Asamyuta Hasta Mudras (one-hand gesture) and Samyuta Hasta Mudra (two-hand gestures).

Each of the hastas can be used to denote various thoughts, ideas and objects.

1. Asamyukta- Mudras done with only one hand
Mudras like Pataka, Trishul, Soochi, etc are expressed using only one hand.

2. Samyukta- Mudras done with using both hands.
Mudras like Anjali, Sw****ka, Pushpapoota, Varaha, etc are expressed using both hands at the same time.

Kicking things off with Mudra Mangalwar

What is a Mudra?
In simple language, Mudra is the language of the handsand the fingers!
Dancers use Mudras in dance to express their emotions and as a means to convey what they want to say through their dance to the audience.
Mudra's help the dancers to express and the viewers to understand!
Isn't that great!
From today, every Tuesday we will explore this vast world of Mudras in dance.

Being Kathak dancers/students we have a close relation with the Hindi language.
Kathak is a classical Dance form which was originated in the northern part of India. Thus, Kathak's basic language is Hindi and its variations.
Most of the Bol's, Kavitta's, the most of theory portion is all in Hindi.
Also the Gharana's of Kathak, namely Lucknow, Jaipur, Benaras are all locates in North India.
So, today is definitely celebrated by Kathak dancers all around the world.

Hello August!
We have had an amazing year so far.
We wish the remaining months to be just as awesome 👌

Kalashri turns 12!
Today was the third program in our 12th year of operation.
As we declared earlier this year we are going to be doing 12 live Kathak programs to celebrate our 12 years in coaching Kathak. Today's program was held in Bhor. It was wonderful as usual!
The speciality of Kathak programs is that the original or the main Kathak performances are done with live music and reciting of the bol's over the microphone.
The tabla player, the harmonium player, the person who does the Padhant are performing live on the stage along with the dancers.
Some dances can be performed via recorded songs, but just the feel of these traditional way of performances is so mesmerizing! That's the speciality of Kalashree! We love embracing our traditions and our roots.
Kathak is an Indian classical dance form which has an history of over 5 centuries and we are proud to be able to preserve the art form and being able to teach it to the new generation. We are thankful for being operating for 12 continuous years and we wish to work in the field of dance and preserving our culture for many more years to come.

We are so proud!
Our student, Miss.Bandish Bankar, who is originally from Pune but currently lives in Germany.

Her school had organised a program where kids from all around the world were asked to perform something that was representative of their culture.

Bandish performed a semi-classical dance choreographed by Tai.

We are pleased to tell that she won and got the first rank in the said competition!

We are super proud of her and the whole team of Kalashri Kathak Academy congratulates her on her terrific win!
