Rajkot Smart City has been awarded the IGBC Green Cities - Platinum rating for the green initiatives taken up for design and implementation. Rajkot Smart City is the first smart city in India to achieve the IGBC Green Cities rating.

The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) was formed in the year 2001. The vision of the council is, "To enable a sustainable built environment for all and facilitate India to be one of the global leaders in the sustainable built environment by 2025".Green building rating brings together a host of sustainable practices and solutions to reduce the environmental impacts. Green building design provides an integrated approach considering life cycle impacts of the resources used.

Rajkot Smart City has achieved 81 points under IGBC Green Cities rating programme which demonstrates the Government of Gujarat’s leadership in creating sustainable cities. The IGBC rating recognises the Rajkot Smart City for excellent initiatives, covering master planning, various improvement in the existing city in respect of water supply, energy efficiency, waste management, e-governance, green cover & several other initiatives and policy interventions

The Indian Green Building council appreciated and acknowledged the excellent leadership of Shri Udit Agarwal - IAS, Chairman, Rajkot Smart City Development Limited and Municipal Commissioner, Rajkot Municipal Corporation.


Some of the green city features of Rajkot Smart City include the following:
Resilience: Comprehensive Hazard and Risk Analysis based on Zonation maps (Earthquake, Cyclone, Drought & Flood) with prevention and mitigation measures integrated in master planning.
Green cover: Green cover improved by 25% with tree preservation & plantation initiatives, as per Gujarat DCR.
Water bodies: City with two natural lakes and 4 reservoirs has been reinforced with rejuvenation of 4 lakes covering 4 km catchment area, resulting in improvement in water table.
Housing for All: 23,489 dwelling units developed under various schemes and action plan developed towards Slum-free City for 135 slums, 15% dwelling units for affordable category housing (EWS/LIG) proposed in ABD area.
Health & Hygiene: 21 public toilet complexes in the ABD area will add to the 137 Public Toilets of Rajkot city contributing to 15% increase in no. of public toilets in the city
Integrated Landuse: ABD developed as new CBD for Rajkot city, FSI of 4 along BRT corridor (Transit Oriented Development initiative)
Walkability: 100% of 23 km road network in ABD planned with footpaths on both sides, cycle lane & parking stations are proposed.
Parking: Multi-level car parking (MLCP) with 780 car parking and 550 two-wheeler capacity proposed in the city with smart parking management initiatives.
Water Management: 100% water supply coverage, 100% consumer metering, 24x7 supply through concept of District Metered Areas, 70% treatment of wastewater in Rajkot city and 95% reuse of treated water, 100% treatment & reuse planned in ABD.
Energy Management: 100% LED lighting, 3.2 MWp solar power generation proposed
Waste Management: 100% door to door collection, 100% Municipal and C&D waste treated. City has Planned 5 TPD Waste to compost plant in each ward. 1000 TPD Waste to Energy plant at landfill site
Air Quality : 20 Air quality monitoring stations across Rajkot City including ABD area.
Smart City Command & Control: Rajkot ICCC operational since Feb 2018 with expanded scope of Rajkot Police under Safe and Secured Gujarat Initiative.
Citizen Engagement : Involvement of 9 lac people in the process of smart city initiatives (70% of population)
Once all the features are implemented, 'Rajkot Smart City' would emerge as a model Smart Green city in the country

3rd Apex Smart city conference , RSCDL awarded Recognition of performance ( Round 3 cities )

Rajkot Smart City has been recognized for best performance in implementation of Smart Cities Mission among Round 3 Cities as part of India Smart Cities Awards Contest (ISAC), 2019 under City Award Category. ISAC 2019 Award Winning Cities was felicitated during the first day plenary session of Third National Apex Conference of Smart City CEOs scheduled during 24th and 25th January, 2020 at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh in the august presence of Shri Durgashankar Mishra, Secretary-MoHUA.

Rajkot got selected as Smart City on 23rd June, 2017
Rajkot is one among the few Smart cities who have selected Greenfield as Area Based Development for their Smart City Proposal.
Since the year 2017, the strategically planned route to develop the city started which began with the development of robust infrastructure.
Some of the Key Features of this strategic development and Achievements of Rajkot Smart City are:
The Rajkot greenfield smart city is planned as per the guidelines of the IGBC Green Cities rating system.
Town Planning Scheme is used as a tool to integrate various components such as lake developments , greenways connecting these lakes, Non-Motorized Transport (NMT) networks, smart infrastructure designs in the 930 Acre ABD area.
As per Smart city TP scheme RSCDL got Possession of 21 km long integrated road network.
RSCDL has awarded work of robust infrastructure including Water Supply, Sewerage, Storm Drain, Utility and ICT Duct, Smart Lighting; District Cooling that fueled the progress.
ATAL lake development in ABD area as public spaces with urban parks and active waterfronts with peripheral promenades to strengthen the ecological, social, economic and cultural environment of the city
