Nestled among the foothills of Himalayas, right at the banks of river Gandak, bordering Nepal, the Valmiki Sabhagar and Guest House is an ambitious project of the Govt. of Bihar. It consists of 102 Guest rooms including VIP suite rooms thereby contributing to the tourism potential of the Valmiki Nagar Tiger Reserve. The 500 seater auditorium coupled with conference halls will be an ideal destination for organizing large public events.

Valmiki Auditorium will give a new dimension to tourism in Valmikinagar,
Bihar is taking new steps daily on the path of progress and innovation.

Hon'ble Chief Minister's direction building construction department has constructed Valmiki auditorium and 4 guest houses on 25 acres of land near Gandak river and Valmiki canal in Valmiki Nagar...

A multi-purpose hall and meeting room has also been constructed with a 500 people capacity auditorium equipped with state-of-the-art amenities in Valmiki Auditorium (Main Building) under West Champaran district.

04 guest houses have been built for visitors rest here with 01 ultra-specific rooms, 05 suite rooms, 27 super deluxe, 30 deluxe and 25 general rooms.

The proposed State Guest House at Bodhgaya comprises of 100 rooms, including 2 Presidential suites and 8 VIP suites. The campus provides all kind of state of art 4 star facilities, like a conference room for 150 people, restaurants, exhibition cm business center, banquet lawn, swimming pool, spa, fitness center etc.

The orientation and location of the site creates a straight axis to the Mahabodhi Temple. The horizontal circulation corridor of the Guest House is along the outer periphery with rooms having viewing galleries inwards, looking into the swimming pool and the meditation garden.

The external façade has been done with detailed motifs inspired from the Mahabodhi Temple, ornately carved with GRC Panels.

We had the 2nd edition of our hands-on brick workshop at BIT Mesra last weekend.

The workshop was attended by architecture students of 1st, 2nd and 3rd year of the institute and all members of our Axis Parivar.

The workshop is a part of our education wing Axis.edu, that aims to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practice. The exercise is to involve students in a direct hands-on experience with brick, learning different bonds, jaalis and arches. It turned out to be a very engaging experience as there were no additional labour help, and students did everything themselves from carrying bricks to mixing mortar to the final brickwork and the arch testing.

The success of the workshop is evident from the happy faces of the budding architects. We are thankful to the Department of Architecture, BIT Mesra for the opportunity and hope to repeat many more of such workshops every year.

Ravenshaw University, New Mahanadi Campus, Cuttack, Orrisa.

Ravenshaw University is one of the oldest institution of higher education in the state of Odisha. It was founded in 1868.

The New Mahanadi Campus is one of our recently completed project, which has been inaugurated today. The inspiration for the new campus is derived and designed by keeping in mind the original context and planning of the old institution to reflect its authenticity.

The sense of entry has also been reflected by implementing the idea of seven pillars of wisdom. The forced perspective of seven pillars of wisdom has been reflected in an exaggerated way to create a nostalgia of the past. The Clusters of four departments are organized around a large central courtyard which houses an Amphitheatre and also acts as a space for informal interactions among the students. Further, each department has a separate entrance from the peripheral road.

Since the old campus of the university has a heritage of its own, the elements have been taken from the old campus and incorporated in the new campus. The strong symmetry has been reflected in the planning. Additional elements like GRC Jalis has been used along with glass to give a decorative look to the building. Deep overhang on all sides shades all the sides. The brick red terracotta colour has been majorly used on the façade in conformity with the image of the existing campus.

Each department is interconnected through a corridor which houses common facilities like faculty cabins, discussion rooms, common rooms and seminar hall. A visual axis is maintained in all areas to give a sense of belongingness to everyone.

Vaniki Mahavidyalaya, Munger

Drawing its Inspiration from the historic Munger Fort with Brick Structure, The Vaniki Mahavidyalaya (Forest Research Institute) is located on a 43.8 acres plot in the vicinity of river Ganges, with the heritage site of Pir Pahar set amidst the backdrop of the site. The Amenities block with its stepped floors culminating into the clock tower sits at the Centre of the plot, being notably visible from all corner of the site as well as being as an interface between the academic block, student hostels and the faculty housing.

It was recently inaugurated by the honorable Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri Nitish Kumar on 7th February 2023.

Last week our Axis Parivaar completed 20 years. To celebrate this, we went on a trip to Kolkata.

Our first day was spent with Ar. Vivek Singh Rathore of Salient Design Studio, who took out his precious time to show us his highly acclaimed project Raajkutir.

Raajkutir is an IHCL property, that celebrates the Bengali zamindar bungalow in all its glory. The project is an adaptive reuse and an urban realization project developed over a garbage dump of 13 acres at Narkeldanga, Kolkata. Architecture and Interior Design by Axis Architects and Urban Planners for the Building Construction Department, Govt. of Jharkhand.

The building form and elevation is designed taking cues from elements of the Raj Bhawan and the Audrey House which are in close vicinity to the site at Police lines. The terracotta tile sloping roof, arches, deep verandahs, the grand portico, the grills, railings and cornices are all detailed to give a very classical appearance. The simplicity in planning as a traditional guest house , amalgamation of traditional art forms at suitable locations and grandeur in interiors with wood was the essence of design. The traditional murals on the building elevation and the verandah are executed by renowned artist Shri Vinod Ranjan ji in the theme of various facets of life in Jharkhand.

There are a total of 9 rooms and 2 suites in the guest house. Additionally a conference hall and dining hall with kitchen have also been provided. The suite rooms with their verandah sit-outs have a view of the garden and fountain.

We are proud to share this project, inaugurated last week by the Honourable Chief Minister , Shri Hemant Soren and the Hon. Governor Shri Ramesh Bais.
