Hi, have you wondered how Facebook messenger, WhatsApp or any other chat application works in real time?

It always feels like the communication is two way just like talking to a person on a phone.

Note
Well, I'm not saying this is what they use because I don't work there but when I trained my students using a real-time database with angular, they asked me if that is what Facebook and other chat apps use. They may have a totally different technology but they are good examples to explain.

What is a traditional database?

In a traditional database, you have to run one query to save the values inside the database and another query to retrieve the values. Now, these are 2 separate queries hitting the database.

What is the problem with the traditional database?

Your application these days make so many requests that it literally shows or crashes the system

What is the solution?

Consider this, a great mathematician is sitting inside a locked room, if you have any questions, you knock on his door, you unlock the door, you ask the question, he gives you the result and you lock the door.

Now you can see where your energy is getting wasted.

What if we remove the locked door, you can ask questions directly to the person without unlocking and locking the door again and again.

How real-time database work?

Looking at the above solution, we can see, only by removing the door will solve a lot many problems.

This is how a real-time database work. They create a direct connection to the database(just like a traditional database) but when you need an answer you don't have to open the door, again and again, you close it when you are done.

Examples of real-time database

Firebase is probably the best realtime database I've worked with and trained People in it.

It is easily integrated and great documentation.

What is Angular?

Have you ever wondered, how you are able to browse facebook website without refreshing or loading the page?

How are you able to upload photos on Facebook in the background while chatting with your friends on facebook website? 🤔

The answer is javascript with other concepts like ajax(but we will try not to lose focus)

Angular uses the power of javascript and other concepts like components, MVC, shadow dom to make powerful websites like facebook.

The official definition of Angular - Angular is a platform that makes it easy to build applications with the web. Angular combines declarative templates, dependency injection, an end to end tooling, and integrated best practices to solve development challenges.

But in simple terms, angular enables you to create an application which is more responsive to user's action with less amount of code.

Taking an example, it is very easy to create a simple email validation where you will find if user's email is a valid email address or not.

You may think, I can do this with jQuery or with simple javascript then why I need angular?

Well lets look into the advantages of using angular framework

✅ Supports shadow dom - makes your application more memory efficient and faster
✅ Reusable components - you don't have to create a same thing again and again, just create one component and reuse it everywhere.
✅ One framework for all - you can create application for mobile, web as well as desktop with just one project.
✅ Inbuilt PWA - Progressive web apps are taking over the world, with angular you can create PWA with inbuilt capabilities.
✅ Typescript - Borrows most of the features of .net which gives the power of powerful concepts of object oriented programming.

ℹ️ The learning curve of angular?

Just like it takes some time to understand a framework, angular does have a learning curve but it is all worth it.

👍 For an average programmer, it will take 14 days 4 hours a day to learn angular.

What is Git and why you should learn it?

When you are working on a project, what are the different ways you make versioning of your project?

And what happens when 2 different people have to make changes in the same file?

Person 1 sits while person 2 makes changes or vice versa?

What if I told you there was a solution to your problem? And that too a free solutions!

The tool which we are going to talk about it GIT

🤔 What is GIT?

GIT is a tool with which people manage and collaborate in a project. (Insert Wikipedia definition also)

🤔 What does it do?

It helps you version control your project and share with your team without creating a new folder or sharing your file/folders on an email / pen drive.

It also helps you include the changes made by your colleague directly into your file without interfering.
Most importantly, you can audit the work.

😱 How does it work?

Git works on the concept of branches, you create a branch which acts as a separate folder (conceptually) and you make all your changes inside that branch.

If you are satisfied you save those changes to the main branch. Let say you want to launch a new version of your application but you also want to keep the current version also. Previously you would create 2 separate folders and manage the code in two places. But with git, you only create a new branch and you can start making changes into that branch. This is how you can manage the versions of the project.

🤔 How git can help you manage your project among colleagues?

Let say you made changes to login.html file and you gave that file to your designer who will do the css part. What will be the process? You made changes, you emailed login.html file to your colleague. He made changes and emailed you back the file. Now your boss said, we need to change the colors of the page. You asked your designer to do the css part. He emails you back the changes. And now your boss asked to add a checkbox of remember me. You obeyed. And then he asked to add responsiveness to the page. Your designer made your page responsive but this time you have to add the checkbox of remember me again because he did not have the current version of the file.
Problem? Every time someone has to make the changes, he has to make sure that they are working on the latest file in order to prevent doing same work again.

With GIT you can maintain the current version of file in cloud. Now if you want to make changes you can simply download the latest code and can start working on it!
How it is better than sending email back and forth?
It saves only those lines which are changed so you don’t have to send or receive the whole file instead just lines of codes which are changed.

🤘GIT Terminology

Branch – Also considered as a folder in day to day language

Pull – Downloading the latest version of code from the central server

Push – Uploading the latest version of code to the central server

Commit – Saving the current changes into the branch
Why you should learn git?

GIT will save your hours, if you made a mistake you can easily roll over to previous changes and get started from their instead of digging deeper into separate folders.
And lastly, GIT will save you and your team’s time to save and manage code.

Big data for non programmers

Are you one of the guys who wants to tap into the world big data but you lack programming skills?

Well in the world of big data, you can be a part of it even without programming skills.

There are tools like Excel, yes the spreadsheet is a powerhouse and a lot of data analyst use it in their day to day data analyst job.

It is powerful to create charts but it has limitations, it can only do wonders with CSV and xls files. Other formats like JSON are hard to be analysed with it.

Another tool, I should say language you can use is SQL to analyze big data.

Suppose I ask you to give me all students who are studying maths and are 21 years old.

You may think, that is something you can only do with programming but here is the deal, you can write queries like

SELECT * FROM students WHERE subject="maths" AND age=21;

You see, anyone who can understand basic English can do it.

So again if you lack programming skills, you can still be part of this big data era.

What is the Difference between Data Analyst, Data Scientist, and Data Engineer?

When I started learning about big data, I never knew this field is subdivided and just like me, every other person is confused about what is the role and responsibility of them.

We will take the example of an online store as an example to explain these.

Who is Data Analyst?

A Data Analyst is a person who will analyze the data. It means he will look into your data and will tell what happened in the past, and what is going on right now. His report will help your management to take the next decision.

Example: Data Analyst in an online store will find what all products were getting more sales and why they are performing great and after that, your management will take a decision that we should display those in banners and on the homepage.

Who is Data Scientist?

A Data Scientist is the person whose job is to find and design new algorithms and methods of getting results out of big data. Just like normal scientist constantly play in their lab, where they test and discover new elements which are more stronger. A Data scientist will design new algorithms to find the result faster with the least amount of data required.

Example: A Data scientist will discover new ways a data analyst can analyze the data for the business.

Who is Data Engineer?

Just like a software engineer has a job of designing a software while CEO has the job of running that business. A data engineer has the job of maintaining the data so Data Analyst or Data scientist can use them. His job includes creating new tools, making big data easily available for them to work on.

Example: Data Engineer in an online store will design an interface so data analyst or data scientist can easily work with that.

Why I'm sharing this? When students enroll in my online classes, I ask them their goal and if they are not clear about them. It will be worthless to take the class.

Please make sure you understand the difference between them and take your steps wisely.

I often get this question when I teach machine learning to students

Which is the best ML algorithm?
None, reason? It depends on what you want from your data, it is like asking i want to go space, can i take the next bus? Yes bus is comfortable but it is not meant for that, you need a space ship!

How much data is sufficient to train the model?
Again that depends on your requirement, if your data is constantly changing like one of Google, then you need to train your model in regular bases. Training a model is like training a person, if you want more out of a person, you need to train the person more
