Emiratization in the UAE has been causing quite a lot of buzz in the GCC region. The UAE government has already imposed huge penalties on companies found violating this new labor law.
But what is this Emiratization? Well, the Emiratization law is a part of UAE governmentโs NAFIS program, and it is targeted at raising the participation of nationals in the private sector. It also aims at creating a skilled and competitive workforce for globally sustainable economic growth.
๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐น๐ฎ๐:
The rule mandates UAEโs private sector companies to employee at least 2% Emiratis out of the total skilled workforce per year; for every 50 workers, there should be 1 UAE national in the company.
Here are some reasons why companies are reluctant to follow this policy:
๐นSkill gap and mismatch
๐นEmploying expatriates is cheaper, because minimum wages and mandatory pension schemes are not applicable for them.
๐นInability to meet the needs of UAE nationals in regard to working conditions and flexibility.
To tackle these problems and for smooth adoption of Emiratization, HRs need to reform their policies and practices, and this is what they need to do:
