The past year has been a greater challenge for all and heartbreaking at so many places. And to rub it in we only see the people we serve misunderstand and mistreat so many of us, which may be demoralising too.
But remember, this is a lion's fight. We may need to unwind but we should never forget to roar.
Root canal therapy or “RCT" is a procedure to treat decayed, infected and injured teeth.
With advanced endodontics it is possible to save most natural teeth.

Your teeth contain tiny passageways called root canals, that contains the pulp (blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue).
🟢 Pulp is commonly infected by an untreated cavity.
🟢The opening created by a cavity allows bacteria to access and infect the pulp.
🟢Inflammation from an infection restricts a tooth’s blood supply, which inhibits the tooth’s ability to heal itself.
🟢Further, antibiotics do not work well for tooth infections.
✴️If you have an untreated cavity it is best to visit your dentist asap.✴️
☠️If a pulp infection is not treated, your tooth may need to be removed, or your infection may spread. A pulp infection can form an abscess (pus-pocket) and spread to your gum and jawbone. From there, it may spread to other parts of your body, including your brain or heart, and cause serious medical conditions.☠️

RCT:
Your dentist will numb your tooth. You may be sedated as well.
🔸Your dentist will create a small hole in the tooth to access the pulp, and remove the infected pulp.
🔸The root canals are then measured, cleaned, shaped and filled with inert material. This may take several sittings to allow infection to subside.
🔸The tooth will receive a temporary filling between dental visits or the tooth may be left open to help it heal.
🔸The tooth is permanently sealed with a crown in the final sitting.
▶️ Single sitting RCT may be done for uninfected teeth that need therapy.
✅Root canal therapy relieves the symptoms of infected pulp.
✅Your restored tooth has the potential to remain healthy for a very long time.

☑️Scaling, polishing, and root planing is the most common and relatively painless procedure done by your Dentist, but it is extremely beneficial for your mouth’s health in the long run.
🔸🔸In the mouth, bacteria and plaque and hardened deposits cause the gums to separate from teeth, allowing large pockets to grow underneath the gums. These pockets harbor even more bacteria, which you can’t reach at home with a toothbrush. This can eventually affect your jaw bone as well and result in loosening of teeth to ultimately tooth loss. To make matters worse, periodontal disease can also cause bad breath and tender, bleeding gums, and has an association with heart disease and diabetes. Luckily, scaling and root planing can significantly reduce the likelihood of periodontal disease.🔸🔸
▶️ The procedure:
Scaling and root planing removes plaque, deposits and tartar from below your gum line, beyond the reach of toothbrushing and flossing. This controls the growth of harmful bacteria. It also helps gums reattach firmly to the teeth. Because this procedure goes deeper than a regular cleaning, your mouth may be numbed. The cleaning may take 1 to 4 or more visits to complete.

The 13th of February is celebrated as the International Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) Day by the fraternity of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons all over the world.
Being a comparatively new surgical branch many common people are not aware of the speciality and how our work can be helpful for them.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a branch of surgery to correct a wide spectrum of diseases, injuries and defects in the head, neck, face, jaws, and the hard and soft tissues of the oral and facial region.
Our work is based on four broad areas:
✅1. Dentoalveolar Surgery – Surgery to remove impacted teeth (teeth embedded in the bones), wisdom teeth, difficult tooth extractions, extractions on medically compromised patients, bone grafting in jaw bones, preprosthetic surgery to provide better anatomy for the placement of implants, dentures, or other dento-facial prostheses.
✅2. Diagnosis and Treatment of:
▫️a) Soft and hard tissue trauma of the oral and maxillofacial region (jaw fractures, cheek bone fractures, nasal fractures, LeFort fractures, skull fractures and eye socket fractures).
▫️b) Congenital craniofacial malformations such as cleft lip and palate and cranial vault malformations (craniofacial surgery).
▫️c) Benign and malignant pathology, cysts, tumors etc.
▫️d) Chronic facial pain disorders.
▫️e) Temporomandibular joint (jaw joint) disorders.
✅3. Cosmetic Surgery of the Face & Jaws:
▫️a) Correction of dental & facial deformities, large or small jaws (Orthognathic Surgery).
▫️b) Facial cosmetic surgery – facelift, browlift, otoplasty, rhinoplasty, cheek augmentation, chin augmentation, genioplasty, neck liposuction, lip enhancement, injectable cosmetic treatments, botox, chemical peel etc.
