Yumesamdong is situated at an altitude of nearly 15300 feet. It is a land of perennial snow and is close to Peoples Republic of China border. Yumesamdong is an hour’s drive of nearly 25 kilometers beyond Yumthang through the rugged mountain road at an area where the sweet fragrance of Azalea / Ezilia fill the region. The plant is used for by the locals as incense. This place is often called as zero point as because beyond this point there is no motor able road and the other side of the mountain lies on the India - Autonomous Region of Tibet border.
The valley is grazed by yaks and their nomadic shepherds. The visit is invigorating and words cannot explain the experience of being at Yumesamdong. Yumesamdong is well known for its ice coverings. There standard package takes care of Lachung stay - Yumthang sightseeing along with the Hot water Spring - Lachung tour Yumesamdong, Katao are optional and are available at supplement cost. Yumthang is a village and tours take you from Lachung to Yumthang village. The journey between the two places is breath taking and rhododendron sanctuary and sulphur spring come on the way. Lachung is a mountain village close to the Tibetan border, in the northeastern Indian state of Sikkim. It's divided by the Lachung River. The village is home to the 19th-century Buddhist Lachung Monastery, surrounded by apple orchards. Nearby, the Yumthang Valley's Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary protects many species of rhododendron. The valley is also known for its waterfalls, pine forests and hot springs.

Sandakphu, West Bengal - is a wonderland for the trekkers. It's located at an altitude of 11,929ft (i.e. 3,636 meters) in Darjeeling district and north west of Darjeeling hill town. This is the summit or the highest point in Singalila range as well as in the state of West Bengal, India. The trek route to Sandakphu goes all along the Singalila range and therefore this is also known as Singalila trek.
Best time to visit : October to Mid December and Mid February to June. Summer is full of Rhododendron bloom, which make the hill more beautiful. During winter visitors can enjoy the snowfall. The towering Mount Kanchenjunga stand high on its north. Mount Everest, Makalu and Lhotse are distinctly visible on a clear day
Sandakphu trek itinerary :
Day 01 : NJP to Manebhanjan.
Maneybhanjan is the gateway to Singalila National Park and Sandakphu. Maneybhanjan is a small hamlet and at an altitude of 2150 metre or 7100 ft above the sea level. It is located just on the International border of India and Nepal and the border is demarketed by a small drain covered with a culvert. In local dialect the meaning of Maneybhanjan is “ A valley of ancient stupas”.
For acclimatization it is required to stay one night in Manybhanjan before proceeding to Sandakphu.
Day 02 : Maneybhanjan to Tonglu / Tumling ( 3050 Mt) – 11 Kms.
From the beginning of the trek, the road is almost stiff and seems to throw the challenge to the trekkers. But once habituated the road has become most friendly offers the view of spell bound natural beauty and gradually climbs up through forests of rhododendron, giant magnolias, spruce and other trees of sub-alpine region and not to mention, more than 600 varieties of orchids – the largest to be found in one geographical area in the world. After 03 kms from Maneybhanjan there is a short break in Chitrey. From Chitrey the road goes to Meghma, which lies under the cloud cover and where the clouds are worshipped as mother deity. The main road bifurcates from Megham and one leads to Tumling ( Nepal) and the another to Tonglu ( India). Both the road pass through the dense jungle and hill sides covered by wild flowers. From Tonglu the view of Mt. Kanchenjunga and its surrounding snow capped hills are fully mesmerizing.
Day 03 : Tonglu / Tumling to Sandakphu ( 3636 Mt.) – 24 Kms
Very early morning watch the sunrise on Mt. Kanchenjunga. Tonglu offers the rare impression of Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt. Pandim and Kumbhkarna, which is called Slipping Shiva or Slipping Buddha by local people. From Tonglu / Tumling road leads to Gairibus ( 2621 Mt.), which is 09 kms down way and takes around 3 hrs to reach. After a little break road starts going upward and proceeds to Kali Pokhri ( 3170 Mt.) through Singalila National Park.
Singlalila National Park is the highest National Park is West Bengal, which spreads over 2400 mt to 3650 mt. above the sea level and covers on an area of 79 sq. Kms. This virgin forest offers the spectacular view of the Himalayan mountains and enriched mainly by alpine, changes with the range in altitude. Trees found in this national park are Rhododendron, Magnolia, Oak, Hemlock, Silver Fir, Juniper, Mailing Bamboo etc and number of wild animal like Leopard, Red Panda, Barking Deer, Pangolin etc. It also hosts of varieties of birds like Cuckoo, Hornbills, Pigeons, Golden Eagles and large number of Migratory Birds.
There is a small lake in Kalipokhri which holds the same name, The colour of the water of the lake is surprisingly dark and considered to be sacred by the local people. The lake is fenced by Buddhist prayer flags and gives the view of Sandakphu Peak.
Beekay Bhanjan is around 2 kms away from Kali Pokhri and also known as the “ Valley of the Poisonous Plants”, as large number of Medical plantation are here. The most arduous and challenging part of the route starts from Beekay Bhanjan and offer the 06 kms ordeal. But after crossing this part all the tiredness of stiff climbing vanish once the road ends suddenly on the top of the Sandakphu Hill, the highest point of West Bengal and offers one of the most fascinating panoramic view of some of the world’s highest mountain summits covering 270 degree on entire North.
Day 04 : Sandakphu to Sri Khola – 18 Kms
After watching one of the most stunning sunrise on Mt. Kanchenjunga from Sandakphu in the very early morning it is time to descend to Sri Khola. Strenous trek route passes through dense forest of Rohododendron, Magnolia and Oak and Dead Valley ( this valley named Dead Valley after the fire broke and entire tree lines of this area were burnt down ) to Sri Khola, which is named after a beautiful wild stream. Sri Khola is surrounded by dense forest, orchids and home of numerous birds. Sitting on the bank of Khola or Stram after a tiresome day trek is really soothing.
Day 05 : Sri Khola to Rimbick ( 2268 Mt.) – 06 Kms
An easy trek route of 6 kms from Srikhola to Rimbick can be covered by a simple leisure walk. From Rimbick transferred to Maneybhanjan or Darjeeling ( 54 Kms) or NJP / Siliguri /Bagdogra.

Offbeat Places nearby Darjeeling - Takdah, Tinchuley and Lamahatta
Takdah :-
Takdah is a small town in the Darjeeling hills surrounded by tea garden and cinchona plantation. The small town was a British army cantonment about a century back. There was also major Cinchona plantation in the surrounding area. After Independence of India, as the British left, Takdah lost its significance substantially. In the recent past, it has started gaining importance due to increased tourist movement in the area. A number of tourist destinations in the surrounding area including Baramangwa, Chotamangwa, Tinchuley have come up.
The British planters had built several bungalows for their accommodation at Takdah, Most of them are more than a century old now. The Bungalows now are occupied mostly by the locals or are in abandoned state, but still exudes much of the charm of a bygone era. One such Bungalow worth a visit is the Sonpur House build by the king of Sonpur in 1911. The Takdah club, that used to be frequented by the British, can also be seen in the nearby area. The Old Takdah is located about a kilometre East of the current Takdah market.
The Rangli Rangliot Tea garden is also another attraction of the area. The Tea garden is one of the largest and most beautiful in the Darjeeling hills. The Tea garden is just a kilometre down from the Takdah club.
Tinchuley :-
Tinchuley or Tinchule is a mountain village near Darjeeling. It is a tourist destination attracting off-beat nature lovers.Tinchuley was started as an eco-tourism initiative with active support from WWF during the 1990’s. As part of the initiative, home stay as well as other sustainable projects such as organic farming was started. Tourism in the area grew several fold over the decades and today Tinchuley has a remarkable number of home stay, lodge and resorts in and around.The major attraction of Tinchuley is the calm and peaceful surrounding; you may go for a walk amidst the pine and oak trees which are in abundance in the area. There is hardly any traffic on the road and you may spend the entire day just roaming in the countryside blissfully; heedless of your city woes.
Lamahatta :-
Lamahatta is a small hilltop village in Darjeeling, mostly inhabitant by various hilly tribes like Sherpa, Bhutia, Tamang, Yalmoo and Dukpa, situated with a height of 1,200m (6,500 feet) from the sea level along with a driving distance about 23 km from Darjeeling city. Nowadays it is built as an eco-tourism destination. Lamahatta is very attractive to the honeymoon couple and those who wish to get away from the hustle and bustle of urban life and enjoy natural solitude for some days. Peaceful and congested free natural environment surrounded by the pine or dhupi forests and majestic Mt. Kanchenjunga to the far north are main usp of the Lamahatta eco-village. Myth Teesta rivers flows near to the Lamahatta. A man-made lake has been created to reserving rain-water to use for the drinking water as well as for the cultivation. Nearby trekking routes are also a tourist attraction at Lamahatta. It is also well-connected to all major tourist hubs like Darjeeling and Kalimpong.

At night, the sky seems to come closer, where twinkling stars on the sky above, kissed the twinkling lights of Gangtok and Pedong bellow in a far distance.
