Gurudongmar Lake, Height- 17,800 ft.

Gurudongmar Lake is one of the highest lakes in the world and in India. The lake is named after Guru Padmasambhava—also known as Guru Rinpoche—founder of Tibetan Buddhism, who visited in the 8th century.

This lake is the best example of tranquility one attains on a magical place. Nestled amidst snow-covered mountains, it is highly sacred for both the Hindus and the Buddhist. According to the local beliefs, it is said that one of the parts of this lake was blessed by Guru Rimpoche, so you will always find that particular spot never freezing no matter how hard the winter is.

The view of Teesta Barrage dam along with the Fulbari canal enhance the beautiful water body of the area as above that you have a starched landscape of beautiful Himalayan Region and if you are lucky enough related to weather condition you can have the mesmerizing view of Mt. Kanchenjunga.

On a winter morning, visitors can enjoy a slow boat ride with the local fishermen on the crystal clear waters of the Teesta river and be enthralled by a vast array of migratory birds, against the backdrop of a snow-covered Khangchendzonga.

The surreal beauty of Gajoldoba is what distinguishes it from the other migratory birdwatching hotspots in the country.
