Finally the much awaited notification for waiver of late fee has been issued vide Notification No. 7/2023 -CT dated 31/03/2023.
Any registered person who has failed to file Annual Return u/s 44 for any Financial Year from 2017-18 to 2021-22 but files the same between 1st April 2023 to 30th June 2023, the maximum late fee has been capped at ₹ 10000 under each Act i.e ₹ 20000 in aggregate.
Currently, the maximum late fee is 0.50% of the aggregate turnover which is extremely exorbitant.
GSTsathi had made a specific representation to CBIC on 01/02/23 and to the Union Finance Minister on 17/02/23 to waive late fee exceeding ₹20000

The Income Tax Deptt has rolled out a new mobile App called ‘AIS for Taxpayer’ to provide easy access to Annual Information Statement to each of the Taxpayers.
Now taxpayers can download this App free of cost from Google Play or Apple Store and access the same after one time registration by providing PAN and authentication through OTP.
Through this App taxpayers will be in a position to share their feedback on the information uploaded in the AIS which means pointing out errors/ corrections in the AIS.
This will help in avoiding unnecessary notices / enquiry from tax department on the basis of incorrect/ duplicate information getting uploaded in AIS.
Accordingly it will be advisable to download the App and review the AIS periodically and point out errors / corrections wherever required.
