Srinagar, April 11 (KS) : Another prostitution racket has been busted in Srinagar and three persons including a lady has been arrested.
A senior police officer told Kashmir Scroll that nvestigation in chanapora case led to busting of another prostitution racket in Nowgam area.
He said that Shabir Mir of charlipora nowgam, his wife Shazia Mir and Adil Gulzar Hazar of Soura were arrested on spot for operating this racket.
He said that two customers and a s*x worker were also detained who all are locals.

*Police cracks Kupwara murder case: Father first strangulated his daughter, then slit her throat with knife*

Kupwara, April 03 Jammu and Kashmir police Monday cracked the murder case of a seven-year-old-girl from Khurhama, Lolab stating that the girl was first strangulated and then her throat was slit by none other than her own father.
“After thorough investigation of the case by team of police, the father of girl Muhammad Iqbal Khatana came to fore as the prime suspect. After cross examining him, we came to know that he had first strangulated his daughter in his vehicle and then took her to a tin shed where he slit her throat,” SSP Kupwara Yougal Manhas said while addressing press conference as per news agency—Kashmir
He said that Iqbal used to fight with her wife almost every day and on March 29 morning, he had a quarrel with his wife over some issue after which his wife had even slapped him. “To vent his anger, he left his home and took a sharp knife along. His wife and locals of the area besides his own brother Showkat Ahmed had seen Iqbal’s daughter asking for Rs 5 from his father. They also saw Iqbal taking his daughter along in his Sumo vehicle,” the SSP said, adding that “Iqbal first strangulated his daughter in the vehicle after which she died on the spot. He then took his vehicle near a tin shed where he slit his daughter’s throat and left here there.”
The SSP said that Iqbal lodged the missing report of his daughter in the Lolab police station. “In the meanwhile, locals found the body of the girl from the tin shed. After post-mortem and thorough discussion with the doctors, we came to know that Iqbal had first strangulated his daughter and then slit her throat with the knife.”
The police officer said that after corroborating the evidences, Iqbal was interrogated and he confessed to the crime. “He has been arrested and the knife he used has been recovered as well,” the officer said, adding that so far investigations revealed that Iqbal was the sole accused
*Body of minor girl who slips into canal in Bla recovered*
Srinagar, April 01 : Body of minor girl who slipped into an irrigational canal in Perniya area of North Kashmir Baramulla district on Saturday has been recovered.
An official told that morning a girl while waiting for the school bus along LJHP canal slipped and fell into the canal.
The girl has been identified as Rukaya Bashir (14) daughter of Bashir Ahmad Ganaie resident of Nowpora Kreeri who is student of 9th class, Syed Sakhi Nowshera high school.
Soon after the incident, rescue operation was started and after hectic efforts, body was retrieved almost a kilometre away from whe she had drowned, official said.

*Srinagar Youth Dies While having fun ride with his Friends*
Srinagar, Mar 31 [KNT]: In a shocking inccident on picturesque Dal road here in Srinagar, a young biker died while having a fun ride with his alleged friends.
Eyewitnesses told news agency Kashmir News Trust that five to six youth were enjoying a fun ride on their bikes, teasing and yelling at one another. When they started overtaking one another, a couple of bikers lost balance outside SKICC resulting in the ugly accident.
One of the bikers died while the condition of another biker is stated to be critical.
The deceased has been identified as Moomin Bhat, a resident of Hyderpora while the injured is Jibran Bhat, also a local from Hyderpora.
Police seized a few bikes and detained couple of riders for questioning. [KNT]
*Son Allegedly Kills her Mother in Sopore, Arrested*
A son has allegedly killed his mother in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, police station sopore headed by SHO Khalid Fayaz arrested the accused within hours of crime, reports said.
Reports reaching Asian News Hub (ANH) said that a man allegedly kills her mother in Dangepora area of Sopore.
They said that after the incident, Sopore police station registered the case and arrested the accused within hours.
Meanwhile the body of lady has been shifted to Sub-district hospital sopore for medico-legal formalities.

*Strong Earthquake Of 6.6 Magnitude Shakes J&K*
Srinagar, Marc 21 (GNS): A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.6 on the Richter scale occurred on Tuesday night in Jammu and Kashmir, triggering panic among the people who rushed outside their homes and called their loved ones to enquire about their wellbeing.
The high-intensity earthquake occurred 22:10:27IST. The earthquake was at the latitude 36.09 degrees north and longitude 71.35 degrees east, a meteorological department official here told GNS. The epicenter was Hindu Kush Region, he said.
There was no immediate report of any damage in the earthquake which caused panic among the people who rushed out of their houses. (GNS)

*_DC kick-starts Sanitation drive under Swachh Otsav campaign at B'la_*
BARAMULLA,MARCH 20: A special
sanitation-cum-awareness drive was today kick-started by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar in presence of President, Municipal Council Baramulla Touseef Raina and other concerned officers.
The Women led Sanitation drive was organized by Municipal Council Baramulla and was carried out with a message to keep the environment neat and clean.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC focused on maintaining hygiene and sanitation. She Isaid the drive has been launched to reinforce the message of cleanliness amongst the public and also to avoid usage of polythene.
With regard to the women-led sanitation drive, Dr Sehrish Asgar said that this step will help in encouraging everyone to keep their surroundings clean and well maintained in line with the spirit of 'Swacch Otsav'.
Meanwhile, Executive Officers of Municipalities were directed to conduct sanitation drives in double shifts to ensure proper cleanliness in all areas.
President, Municipal Council Baramulla while speaking on the occasion said that the objective of the drive is to promote cleanliness across all vulnerable locations in the district. He further asserted that the motive of the drive apart from cleanliness is also to encourage people to avoid use of non-bio degradable plastic material.

*Old bridge set on fire in Sopore town*

Sopore, Mar 20 (KNO): An old bridge was set on fire in Chankhan area of Sopore town in north Kashmir's Baramulla district by some miscreants, officials said here on Monday.
An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that miscreants during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday set the historic bridge on fire.
He said soon after the incident the fire was put off and teams and police and civil admin reached to the spot. Meanwhile, police have taken cognisance of the incident.
An official of Roads and Buildings department said that the remains of the bridge will be auctioned within 2 days.
Notably, the bridge was declared unsafe for traffic in 1999 and was being used for pedestrian movement only. However, the movement was halted in 2019 when the bridge developed some cracks and one of its pillars collapsed—(KNO)

*Militancy Case: SIU Conducting Searches At LeT Commander's House In Pulwama*
Srinagar, March 20 (GNS): Special Investigation Unit of Kashmir Police is conducting searches at Kakapora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday morning.
Official sources told GNS that Searches are underway at Kakapora in the house of Ab Aziz Dar son of Ghulam Mohd Dar.
Ab Aziz is the father of active LeT commander Reyaz Ahmad Dar, who has been active for 8 years and is believed to be one of the oldest surviving militants.
The searches are conducted in connection with case FIR No. 239/2022 of Police station Pulwama, they said.(GNS)
