informed that she spoke to ministers and

officials who have promised to send his body

received a
request in this regard from Jammu and
Kashmir and
it is mulling over it. According to sources, the
decision
on this issue would be taken by PrimeMinister

Flu Alert In Kashmir
=>Authorities in Kashmir issued a
Swineflu alert as doctors saidthe
H1N1 virus was present in some
parts of the local community. “In
2008-2009, we had 53 cases of
H1N1 virus which tested positive
for the disease. This was because of
people carrying the virus coming
from outside or those locals who
brought it here after visiting
places,” G.M. Qadri, an
epidemiologist, is reported to have
said. “The virus is in parts of our
community and wemust take
adequate precautions to deal with
it,” he added. Qadri said the
commonsymptoms of the disease
are high grade fever ranging around
104 degrees Fahrenheit, running
nose, sore throat and cough.
“We treat the infected people with
Tamiflu drug and the infection is
treatable. But, prevention is always
better,” he said adding “People must
wash their hands often, avoid
congested places, patients with
proven H1N1 infection must not
cough or sneeze directly. They must
use a tissue paper while they cough
or sneeze. Infected people
shouldnot attend social functions”.
The doctor further advised
“Familymembers of the infected
people must be constantly watched
for H1N1 virus by carrying out
tests on them.”
Last week, an employee of the super
specialty Sher-e-Kashmir- Institute
of Medical Sciences Soura (SKIMS)
died of H1N1 infection while
doctorsthere said they had
successfully treated four others
during the last five months.
Ever since the 2009 swine flu
pandemic, the disease has become a
seasonal one in India akin to dengue
or malaria. Whenever, the
temperature dips various states are
affected by the virus. Last year,
swine flu affected various states
throughout the country including
Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan,
Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh and
Andhra Pradesh.
Simply covering your mouth while
sneezing or coughing and/or
wearing a mask isn’t enough to
protect yourself from the virus.The
H1N1 virus is surprisingly resilient
and can survive on door k***s,
table tops and other contact

Shirdi: A 32-year-old man, who was released
from jail
for his good behaviour after serving sentence
in a
r**e and murder case of a minor girl, was
again
arrested for allegedly ra**ng and killing a girl
here,
police said today. Sunil Suresh alias Pappu
Salve was arrested
yesterday for allegedly kidnapping a nine-
year-old girl
from Shirdi town of Ahmednagar district in
Maharashtra on December 28 last year
following
which he r**ed her and then killed her. Salve
was arrested yesterday near Manmad railway
station in Nashik district by Shirdi police. He
was later
produced in Rahata local court which
remanded him to
police custody till January 17, police said.
Earlier, Salve was arrested in 2003 for ra**ng
and
murdering a minor girl in Sinnar area of
Nashik
district. Later, Nashik Sessions Court had
awarded death
sentence to him in the case. But he had
appealed in
the Bombay High Court against the sentence
and was
acquitted in the case, police sources said.
However, he was serving two jail terms - ten-
year and
seven-year rigorous imprisonment each -
forcases of
r**e and murder against him lodged in
Ambad and
Nashik police stations in 2002, police said. On
account of his good behaviour, he was
released
from the Nashik road jail on May 28, 2012.
After release from jail, Salve kidnapped the
nine-year-
old girl from Shirdi and allegedly r**ed and
murdered
her on December 28, 2012. He then threw the
victim's body at an isolated place
near Shirdi railway station. The decomposed
body was recovered on Friday night,
police said.

20 panchayat members resign in J&K citing
threat to life
In the wake of the fresh militant attacks on
Panchayat members in Jammu and Kashmir,
around 20 panches and sarpanches of the
Baramulla district today tendered their
resignations here citing "threats to their
lives".
The panches and sarpanches from Hardshiva
A and B and Yemberzalwari halqas of Sopore
area in the district announced their
resignations in the presence of the media
here.
"We fear for our lives...and are therefore
resigning,"said Manzoor AhmadRather, a
sarpanch from Hardshiva Sopore.
He said the fresh attacks on
Panchayatmembers in Sopore have created a
senseof fear among the members who are
now opting for resignations, and have
accused the government of not taking
adequate measures to protect them.
Suspected militants on Friday shot dead a
sarpanch, Habibullah Mir at Goripora village in
Sopore town, 52 kmsfrom here, while a
woman panchayat member Zoonaa Begum
was shot andinjured inside her house at
Hardshiva Sopore last night.
Panchayat members in Kashmir have been
demanding security from the state
government since last year after such similar
incidents
