Outcome of New Computer Based Binocular Vision Therapy in Residual Amblyopia:
We found this new form of therapy modestly effective for amblyopia. It offers hope for vision improvement where all the conventional amblyopia treatment failed.
I thank my coauthors Vivek Rathod, Md Oliullah Abdal, Shruti Lad and the founders of the vision therapy centers for their contributions.

A WAKEUP CALL: The most popular vision chart used by us is THE MOST INACCURATE.
Results of the research performed at Jyotirmay eye clinic by Mr Yash Jain, Dr Rutika Dodeja Hathiramani, Mr Vivek Rathod and Dr Mihir Kothari

In this prospective study, 2 observers had their vision tested on Snellen type, space saving (Bailey Lovie Design), projector (Bailey Lovie Design) and LED chart (ETDRS). The effect of changing viewing distance, optical blur and media blur were tested. Results: Lines available for VA assessment ranged from 7 lines (LED) to 20 (projector). Mean variation in BCVA was 1.5lines. Distance had no effect in the VA measured. Mean interchart variation in VA was 3 lines (max 5) with optical blur and 1.5 lines (max 2.8) with media blur. The loss of lines experienced differed by an average 4lines on different charts (min 2.5, max 6) for optical blur and 2.1lines (min 1, max 3) with media blur. The difference was significant. Conclusion: VA measured on different charts was highly variable. Snellen chart was least accurate followed by the LED chart. The projector chart was the best followed by the space saving chart. High interchart variability doesn’t allow different charts used interchangeably for measurement or reporting VA. There is an urgent need to use standardized VA charts.

WE HAVE NO FINANCIAL INTEREST IN THE SALE OF ANY VISION CHARTS.

DISCARD the SNELLEN charts and Snellen notations and Use the LogMAR charts and LogMAR notations.

An important AND urgently needed step towards improved patient care.

Reliability of "Google" for obtaining medical information.

Internet is used by many patients to obtain relevant medical information. At Jyotirmay, we assessed the impact of "Google" search on the knowledge of the parents whose ward suffered from squint. In 21 consecutive patients, the "Google" search improved the mean score of the correct answers from 47% to 62%. We found that "Google" search was useful and reliable source of information for the patients with regards to the disease etiopathogenesis and the problems caused by the disease. The internet-based information, however, was incomplete and not reliable with regards to the disease treatment.
