GIANT PUPPET Workshop at Ala, is a ten-day programme in which 12 theatre practitioners live and work together to create giant puppets under the guidance of Andrew Kim.

A Global Maestro of Puppetry and Mask Theatre, Andrew Kim, is a distinguished performer and director, born in Korea and raised and educated in the USA. His foundational training was with ‘In the Heart of the Beast Puppet’ and ‘Mask Theatre’ in Minneapolis, supplemented by further experience with ‘Bread and Puppet Theatre’, ‘traditional Korean’ and ‘Balinese mask theatre’.

In his thirty year long career, he has served in various artistic leadership roles, including Islewilde Community Arts Celebration (Vashon, WA), Fremont Summer Solstice Pageant (Seattle), Dream Parade (Shijr City, Taiwan), Liverpool Halloween Carnival, ‘LUXe’ (Ireland) and ‘Thalias Tjenere’ (Denmark).

He is the founder and former Artistic Director of the ‘Hebden Bridge Handmade Parade’ and the ‘Todmorden Lamplighter Festival’ and currently the Artistic Director of 'Thingumajig Theatre, UK.

Ala Centre for Culture and Alternative Education, situated on the suburbs of Kochi, is the operational base of ‘MeandYou Foundation. Since it's inception in 2018, Ala is transforming into a Community Theatre that artistically enriches the lives of local residents by organizing plays, musicals, film screenings, workshops, and discussions.
