So as enigmatic as a Smile is, it's one of the foundations for one’s development of an attitude that boosts one's confidence and inspires others as the same, and as it affects the Self. A Smile can do wonders, that explanations, persuasions, chases, pursuits, or for that matter most of our actions to please someone and get endearments and get work done, are at times not adequate to yield the craves and wants.

No matter how one's smile is, it can definitely, be of enough significance to influence the onlooker of that smile, and is always captivating, however, having said that, the concept of what a good smile is or should be, could be, would be, is in the minds of the Humans as per their cultivated sense of aesthetics and picturesque embodiments that soothes their eyes in general and their vision and thoughts in particular. It's my one experience that different people with different backgrounds have different senses of recognising the cosmetic scale of a smile in another human as well as his or her own Self. And then we say “ Beauty is only Skin deep” Which of course in actuality is beyond the skin and lies in one's mind and heart and his general dispositions and mannerisms.. The Inner beauty has its one value. However, as there Gods of First Impression, the optics of the Skin deep beauty are the First impressions and judgements enticed in the viewer's mind. Most of us, being Gods of First impression, judge another Human on the first encounter and the Smile in pinnacle of eminence on one's face, plays the ever so important role. Including how we like ourselves in the mirror or on a picture or selfie in this social media era, which in turn makes the Smile a high priest perched on the throne of power of one's mindfulness. There is a cliche that “ if Cleopatra’s nose would have been a bit longer, the concept of beauty would have been different today.” In the late 1980s, and early 1990s, the Madhuri Dixit smile became famous and generally used as a scale for comparison of one's own smile. That's how the Societal norms and thinking are and we are a part of that and we have lived that way, so shall live thereby.

So engrammed is this in the minds of the Humans these days, that one feels unconfident and lacking, whether one is in reality not so, when one does not have a smile that is currently perceived as a good and captivating Smile. A remark I find appropriate at this juncture, is that there are indeed Gods of Lasting Impression and Gods of Best Impression as well, but somewhere in their deep mindset, the first impression lasts and is often sensed as the best. Though there are exceptions to it. But that is beyond the scope of current discussion.

Niral (Name changed for Privacy), a young thriving girl, well placed in her profession and doing very career wise with a sound education with Master’s degrees in her assemblages, was conscious of smile and wanted enhancement in her persona and elevate the way she likes to be seen by others and wanted a smile that is most acceptable on social norms as deemed to be perfect and enthralling.

Niral sought the help of Dr Amish Mehta and Dr Amish Mehta’s Chandan Dental to achieve her goals and desires as thriving as they were in her mind. A thorough case analysis being performed and the understanding the needs and the wants of Niral coupled with that, it became apparent aht braces, the fact notwithstanding that they (braces) would be as efficient as they would be in her case, was not a part of the solution that she envisaged. So, in came the technology that has evolved significantly, in the past two decades with an increase in awareness in India since circa 2010, though named as “Aligners”, do more than just align the teeth. They are rapidly rising as an alternative to Traditional Braces. The pioneers of these, Invisalign, starting their operations in USA in 1997 and in India in 2016, have indeed stirred the Orthodontic world with Invisalign becoming a generic name for Aligners to treat malocclusion of teeth and jaws and enhance the aesthetics and optimize the function of the Dental structures.

Invisalign Aligners were offered to Niral as an alternative to braces, which was well accepted by her. Upon performing the Aligner treatment, results were remarkable. Niral got her self confidence and her dentition became near perfect. It is worth mentioning that treatment required minimal visits and in fact she could work in Germany for a long time wearing the aligners regularly.

…we evolved. And are still evolving. We inherit, we adjust. We get our looks from our parents and ancestors. Inheritance from our genetics plays a big role in how we look like our parents. Certain traits are inherited from our father, certain from our mother. Certain beyond our parents, as some genes bypass generations before they manifest. All is well explained in today's understanding of the Mendelian inheritance, DNA, Chromosomes and Genes. These are genetic traits and some are environmentally influenced and affected. Your height, weight, hair, facial features, your intelligence, your organs and almost everything physical and mental about you is first inherited from your genes from your parents and/or ancestors, and then is environmentally influenced to manifest the way you, your body, your mind, your thoughts, your career, your work, your judgements, beliefs are.. And much more.

Two such traits, though still in empirical form of science, are your jaw size and the teeth size and their number. It's postulated that you inherit both or either of them. When the inheritance is not harmonized and balanced it can affect the teeth alignment and function. So for that matter, if your teeth size and number match the Jaw size and volume to accommodate them all in their finest finesse, the teeth are well coordinated and form the upper and lower arches in perfect arch form and the way they meet and function together for our basic need of existence; mastication i.e. eating, saying so in its simplest stature. If this does not occur, then either the jaw size and volume is too small to accommodate your teeth and/or teeth size is larger then the available bone volume in their respective jaws. On the other hand, if the tooth size is small and the jaw is normal or bigger, the teeth will be spaced out with gaps between them. All these, can affect the three cardinal objectives of the dentition : Functional Efficiency, Aesthetic harmony and Structural balance.

Meena (name changed for privacy) had these, with her teeth not properly aligned and jutting out, influencing rather impending her function and aesthetics. She was not able to bite from the front teeth and had difficulty in chewing and her lips were not able to close at rest, leading to mouth breathing. ...a man/woman rides a bike for commuting and work and to do his daily cores in India. Mostly, its out of need rather any want that most Humans in India ride on two wheeler. An unexpected incident that frequently affects these Humans is a fall from the bike and that usually ends up in trauma to Human Body at times, quite debilitating and disturbing one's normal life. One such is the trauma to the Human Face and the teeth with its jaws.

Humayun was a young aspiring hardworking Human who met this fate and ended up have severely disfigured face and teeth and jaws, affecting the masticatory function and his aesthetics severely compromised as well. He was a man in pain in mind and body.
