The lesser known Baroda Stadium, now famously known as MSU Pavilion!

In 1938, the visionary Maharaja Pratapsinh Gaekwad Saheb approved the site for Baroda Stadium, symbolizing his commitment to promote sports in the region. After careful consideration, the site near Camp Road (now Pratapgunj road) was chosen, marking the beginning of a new era for sports enthusiasts.

Amidst a jubilant gathering on April 30th, the foundation stone was laid, heralding the birth of a modern sports facility. The stadium, costing Rs. 97,000, aimed to honor the legacy of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, emphasizing physical education and public health.

With provisions for future expansions like sports grounds and a swimming pool, the stadium aimed to be a hub for diverse sporting activities. Dedicated to the youth of Baroda, it embodied the spirit of the Olympics, emphasizing fair play and perseverance.

During the ceremony, Maharaja Pratapsinhrao Gaekwad delivered an inspiring speech, expressing gratitude to all involved in the project. He reiterated the timeless words of Rudyard Kipling, "If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two imposters just the same."
Mr. Talvalkar, the State Architect, was also recognized for his pivotal role in the stadium's design and construction. Maharaja Pratapsinhrao Gaekwad emphasized the importance of the stadium as a symbol of community spirit and unity, expressing hope that it would serve as a beacon of inspiration.

The PWD staff, with their dedication and hard work, ensured the successful ex*****on of the project, symbolizing teamwork and community spirit. They also distributed Pan Supari to the all the guests. As the ceremony concluded with the Baroda State Anthem, it marked the beginning of a journey towards a healthier, happier community.
