Ocean of Devotion

Just as a river merges and becomes one with the ocean, a devotee who has surrendered himself completely at the lotus feet of the Lord becomes one with him in love.

Sanjhi Mahotsav/Festival in Braj 2024

Every autumn, Sanjhi Utsav is held throughout Braj. Sanjhi is a unique art form in which coloured powders, gems, flower petals or cow dung are used to draw detailed scenes of Radha and Krishn’s lilas.

Sanjhi can be made on the ground, on walls, or even on the surface of water. But at the Shri Radharaman Temple, a special structure of raised earth is made, which becomes the canvas for sanjhi.

The mood is that Radharani is busy with her family during pitr paksh, and thus she is not able to meet Krishn freely. In separation, she prays to Sanjhi Devi and lovingly draws sanjhi of her various lilas with her Beloved. The next morning, Radharani removes the previous night’s sanjhi and creates a new one. On the last day of the festival, there is a celebration.

वंशी विभूषित करा नवनीरदाभात्
पीताम्बरादरुण बिम्बफलाधरोष्ठात् ।
पूर्णेन्दु सुन्दर मुखादरविन्द नेत्रात्
कृष्णात्परमं किमपि तत्त्वमहं न जानि ॥

vaṃśī vibhūṣita karā navanīra dābhāt
pītāmbarā daruṇa biṃba phalā dharoṣṭhāt ।
pūrṇendu sundara mukhādaravinda netrāt
kṛṣṇāt param kimapi tatva ahaṃ na jāni ॥

“I know no tattva greater than Shri Krishn, who holds the flute in his lotus hands, whose lovely form is dark like a raincloud, whose sweet face is like the full moon, whose eyes are like the most beautiful lotuses, who wears a yellow dress, and whose lips are crimson like the rising sun.” (Harivamsa, 44.59, [14:12-15])

hon braj maganon ju ।
braj taji aṃta na jaun ju ॥
bade bade bhupati bhutal mein daataa sur sujaan ju ।
kar na pasaron, sir na navaaun yaa braj ke abhimaan ju ॥

“My only wish is to live in Braj, and I will never leave this divine land to go anywhere else. In the pride of being a Brajwasi, I will never bow down before worldly people, nor ask them for anything, no matter if that person is a dignitary, a king, or the biggest philanthropist in the world!”

Pavitra Offering - Monday 28 August 2023

Pavitra (a garland made of silk thread) is offered after Shringhar Aarti to Shriji, by the Goswamis of the Temple on Dwadashi (the day after Ekadashi fast), to ask for forgiveness for any offences that may have been caused in his worship over the past year.

Mantra to be recited whilst offering Pavitra:

Kṛṣṇa! Kṛṣṇa! namastubhyaṁ gṛhāṇedaṁ pavitrakam l
pvitrīkaraṇārthāya varṣapūjāphalaprada ! ||
pavitrakaṁ ḵurusvādya yanmayā duṣkṛtaṁ kṛtam |
śuddho bhavāmyahaṁ deva! tvat prasādāt janārdana ! ||

पवित्रा द्वादशी

पवित्रा द्वादशी पर श्रृंगार आरती के समय श्रीराधारमण देव जू को पवित्रा धारण करवाई जायेगी। पवित्रा में 365 रेशमी धागे होते हैं। जैसे कि एक वर्ष में 365 दिन होते हैं। इसके पीछे धारणा यह है कि पूरे वर्ष की पूजा में जाने-अनजाने जो दोष हुए हों, उसकी निवृत्ति हो सके। उन रेशम के धागों से माला बनाकर श्रीलाल जी को पहराई जाती है।

पवित्रा धारण करवाते समय मन्त्र:

कृष्ण कृष्ण ! नमस्तुभ्यम् गृहाणेदम् पवित्रकम् ।
पवित्रीकरणार्थाय वर्षपूजाफलप्रद ! ।।
पवित्रकम् कुरुस्वाद्य यन्मया दुष्कृतम् कृतम् ।
शुद्धो भवाम्यहम् देव! त्वत् प्रसादात् जनार्दन ! ।।
