Eklavya India Foundation

Building career and leadership among marginalized communities through higher education.

15/11/2024

Today, on Birsa Munda's birth anniversary, we honor the legendary Freedom Fighter's tireless efforts to uplift tribal communities. He broke superstitions, changed outdated practices, and fostered pride. His vision of Abua Disom (self-rule) sparked a powerful movement for tribal rights and freedom.

Eklavya India Foundation pays tribute to Birsa Munda, celebrating his enduring legacy. We're also proud to announce that today marks the commencement of our PG residential workshop, uniting talented tribal students from across India, who are dreaming of pursuing higher education in India's best institutes and breaking generational poverty.ЁЯТЩЁЯЩМЁЯП╗ЁЯЩМЁЯП╗

Listen to Smita Tatewar share her journey from her primary schooling in a small village at Yavatmal to becoming a co-founder of Eklavya India Foundation and a relatable model for her community's next-generation students.

It's always heartwarming to hear her talk about her growth as a woman of a nomadic tribe community, from a village, that still marries off their daughters at an early age and as a mentor who strives to be a lifelong student. From searching and looking up to relatable models, she has become one, motivating girls from her community to go beyond the stereotypes and get a better education! ЁЯТЩ

The CrossCulture Programme (CCP) offers fellowships to 55-60 professionals and dedicated volunteers from over 40 countries. This unique opportunity allows fellows to spend 2-3 months working with host organizations in Germany or CCP partner countries. During this period, fellows broaden their expertise, build valuable networks, and develop essential intercultural skills.

Through the CCP Fellowship, participants gain expertise through cross-cultural workshops, networking events, and professional meetings. Upon returning home, fellows integrate their international experience into their organization's work, fostering sustainable development and social impact.

Our session will be led by Shakti Yadav, a former GSP mentee and mentor, and founder-director of Buy Food with Plastic India. This innovative non-profit tackles plastic waste and food insecurity in Mumbai's lower-income communities. Through live events, they exchange warm meals for plastic bottles and conduct awareness sessions for adults and children. They've saved over 60,000 plastic bottles, delivered 42,000 meals, supported 4,500 individuals, and educated 1,000 children.

This is the first time that we are celebrating a space that has been ours for so long and we could conduct all our programs in one place without the need to search or seek any other. All our explorations and experiments to build the learning process for our students along with our organization in this scenic and naturally abundant space have been an adventurous and evolving experience. This space itself has grown with and within us in the last year. Our students, mentors, staff, and each member, as Smita said rightfully, have added something valuable to this space and helped us achieve so much within such a limited time. As we reflect on the years past, we're grateful for the community of compassion, kindness, and integrity we've built.
