Dating back to 4000 years ago, Chaharshanbe Suri, the ancient fire festival, has its roots in the Zoroastrian period of Persian history. People set up bonfires in the streets and jump over them to cleanse themselves of all the misfortunes and impurities of the past year and get ready for a warm welcome to the coming New Year. Happy Chaharshanbe Suri to all Persian-speakers around the world
