A collection celebrating the 60s could not ignore the Belle Vivier, an emblem of the era’s French culture and its global influence. Among the season’s different model iterations, one is featured in radiant red with a tone-on-tone buckle.
The Viv’ Podium Ballerinas from this season’s Autumn 2024 collection features a ‘buckled heel’, which is also mirrored in the small front strap closure of the design.
The Virgule, and its unforgettable inverted comma heel from 1963, receives a striking update for this Autumn collection in black or bi-colour Mary-Janes with a buckle shaped crystal closure – assertively comfortable yet highly distinguished.
LADY RUBY
Interpreting the beliefs of prosperity held around the creature of good fortune, Lady Ruby plays on notions of multiplicity and excess. The red satin base of the bag is draped of hand-stitched rhinestones of varying sizes and shades of red, then complemented by fringes of translucent red beaded cords tipped with red satin spheres. These luxurious orbs are themselves embroidered in red and black beads, embodying the creature of good fortune. The creation of this Pièce Unique took approximately 40 hours.
SCORPION DE NUIT
This Pièce Unique, honouring the scorpion in its most tenebrous form, took approximately 36 hours to see the light of day. It is armoured of hand-embroidered jet-black pointy pyramid shaped crystals. Fringes of black crystal beads surround the bag’s edges, while the buckle is adorned of individual rhinestones following the techniques of high jewellery.
Evoking natural ecosystems as well as mythic interpretations, Gherardo Felloni imbues each creation with talismans and gestures that recall their namesake creature. From butterflies and spiders to lady beetles and fireflies: all are transformed into shimmering Viv’ Choc handbag and gilet designs through the deft sublimation of rich colours, sparkling textures and figurative forms.
NEFERTITI
In Ancient Egypt, scarabs were a symbol of the eternal cycles of life and death, guiding pharaohs in the afterlife. A loyal tribute to the scarab’s appearance, this creation, which took approximately 40 hours to realize, is composed of polychromatic beads and rhinestones akin to the creature’s reflecting hues of black, indigo, blue and green. This myriad of stones of varying sizes, hand-encrusted on black satin, make this joyful handbag also a designer piece of jewellery.
LUCIOLE
To create the night that ignites the firefly’s lantern, approximately 40 hours went into the creation of this Pièce Unique. A navy-blue satin embroidered with fringes of blue beads and Galeotti ostrich feathers compose the bag. Some of these fringes are adorned with delicate spheres made of golden filaments. Each of these sculptural bubbles enrobe a crystal stone, with its point of scintillating light representing the wandering creature.
ICARUS
On a black organza base, approximately 36 hours were needed to recreate the wings of a Common Blue Butterfly (Polyommatus icarus) entirely by hand. Meticulously detailed through shades of embroidered black and blue rhinestone beads, the patterns, padded, are rendered in three dimensions, giving these delicate wings a sensual aspect. The front reveals a buckle encrusted with blue and black rhinestones, also adorning the platinum metal chain. This Pièce Unique is Gherardo Felloni’s favourite.
ROYAL BEE
One of Creative Director Gherardo Felloni’s favourite pieces from the collection, this Pièce Unique required 35 hours to realise. Over a black organza fabric embroidered of elongated black beads, a golden metal shield hovers over the piece like a beehive’s matrix. The structure grows from the central buckle, taking over the entire bag. This originating central closure is encrusted with light yellow topaz-coloured crystals akin to the amber hues found in honey.
TOILE PERLÉE
To create the spider’s web, the artisans worked for 36 hours inspired by the diligence of the creature. The web’s threads take form as a metal net, made-to-measure like a dress pinned and fitted directly onto the bag. The structure’s adorning pearls resemble droplets dressing the yarn’s filaments, as one would find them amidst the early brumes of dawn.
ADÈLE
The Maison wanted to revere the beetle by sublimating it like in a Klimt painting, this Pièce Unique is thus named after the painter’s famous model. Its creation required approximately 40 hours and 150 golden metal beads that emulate the creature’s anatomy. They compose the bag together with smoked amber rhinestones and crystals, making it a piece of designer jewellery on its own.
To discover each Pièce Unique, the Maison has transformed its iconic Salle d’Argent into a Natural History Museum experience.
Each Viv’ Choc bag and silk gilet with its namesake creature is shown as a gem of nature, to be studied and marvelled at.
