We are thrilled to announce the Fall 2024 edition of Triggering Change! This video pitch competition empowers students to design innovative solutions for environmental sustainability and increases their eco-literacy. Selected as a best practice for addressing SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), Triggering Change was featured in the 2024 volume "Higher Education and SDG 2" and, since its creation in 2022, has involved 430 students from 80 countries.

This semester, students from Richmond American University London, Oxford Brookes University, and the University of Arkansas Rome Center will join us. Expert speakers include Helina Teklu, CEO of Seed Balls Ethiopia and an internationally recognized environmental activist and architect, and Simone Morosini from Alisea, Italian recycling champion and B-corporation.
Participants will focus on SDGs 10 (reduced inequalities) and 12 (Responsible Consumption & Production) to inspire real-world action.

A Field Like No Other: Meet Art History Major Olivia De Laura Olivia De Laura, who hails from Virginia, is an Art History major in her junior year at John Cabot University.

On August 28-29, 2024, the Frank J. Guarini School of Business at John Cabot University hosted the Life Design Workshop in collaboration with The Ideas Lab, a company specializing in design thinking, innovation, and life design. The workshop aimed to help new students navigate their university experience and establish goals for their academic and personal growth.

Fall 2024 kicks off with a warm welcome to over 1,000 new students from across the globe! With representation from all 50 U.S. states and 57 countries. New students and returning combined bring our enrollment for the Fall 2024 semester to around 1900, making JCU one of the largest American universities in Europe! On June 5th, the Atlantic Council, in collaboration with John Cabot University, Sussex University, the Knights of Malta, and the University of Notre Dame, hosted a conference in Rome titled “Religious Freedom and Integral Human Development: A New Global Platform.” The conference brought together experts from various fields to discuss the relationship between religious freedom and integral human development (IHD), emphasizing the importance of human dignity in fostering global human rights and development.

Thanks to JCU, some of our students recently had the opportunity to participate in the TOChina Summer School Program in Turin.

On July 8, 2024, the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute and John Cabot University hosted the event “Beyond Borders: Unveiling the Human Stories of Migration” to inaugurate the Ninth Edition of the Summer School on Migration and Human Rights. The event featured a screening of the documentary Agàpe, directed by Velania A. Mesay and Tomi Mellina Bares, which chronicles the experiences of migrants stranded in Le**os and Cyprus. The screening was followed by a panel discussion with the filmmakers and other experts.

Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting several high school counselors from around the world. They got to live the JCU experience from a Gladiator’s perspective! From auditing classes to being introduced to our various departments, they can return to their students to answer any questions about JCU! Thank you to for flying in!

Renita Terabramians, who graduated from John Cabot University with an MA in Art History in Fall 2023, has embarked on a career path that combines her passion for art with law. During her time at JCU, Renita interned at the Association for Research into Crimes against Art (ARCA), which inspired her to pursue a legal career specializing in art law. Currently, she lives in Los Angeles and works as a legal assistant at a law firm.

From June 19 to 21, three delegates from John Cabot University attended the Summer School "Markets and Governments: A Theoretical Appraisal," organized by the Economics Department of the University of Rome Tor Vergata. Held at the historic Villa Mondragone, this event focused on "Inequality, the design of markets, and redistribution."
Now in its second year, the Summer School aims to familiarize postdoctoral researchers with the latest literature and interdisciplinary approaches in Political Economy, emphasizing the relationship between markets and governments.
Recent graduates Giovanni Tremontini and Alessandra Angeletti, as well as current student Paolo Resta, all majoring in Economics and Finance, participated in this prestigious program sponsored by JCU's Economics Department and supported by scholarships to attend.

Did you know we offer engineering courses over the summer? During the summer sessions, visiting professors come to our beautiful city to teach these courses. The benefit? Personalized learning through our small classes. If you missed out, set a reminder for next year!

It’s still summer, but we are looking to Fall 2024! On July 28th, you’ll be able to book your spot on trips and activities with the Student Engagement office! These fill up quickly so be prepared for when they go live.

On June 19, John Cabot University hosted the 2024 Meeting on Political Science and Political Economy, featuring keynote speakers Dr. Vieri Ceriani and JCU President Franco Pavoncello. Dr. Ceriani addressed Europe's challenges, including an aging population, technological lag, and the war in Ukraine's impacts. President Pavoncello discussed European integration, US involvement, and the rise of nationalism. Professor Antonelli discussed demographic issues and the renewed Stability and Growth Pact's impact on public finance. The event concluded with reflections on EU integration, sustainability, and future challenges.

John Cabot University's Department of English Language and Literature and Frohring Library have developed a teaching guide titled "The Liberal Arts Guide to Academic Writing in the Age of AI: Crafting Meaning, Empowering Students" to address the impact of artificial intelligence on university-level writing. Created by the JCU Writing and Pedagogy Working Group in Spring 2024, the guide incorporates the latest AI research and student success data. It offers ten instructional modules for integrating AI tools into writing assignments. The guide was presented at two international events: the European Writing Center's biennial conference in Limerick, Ireland, and a web-based event organized by the Open Society University Network's Liberal Arts and Sciences Collaborative (LAS Collab). Both presentations received enthusiastic responses, highlighting practical applications of AI tools to enhance liberal arts education.

Happy 4th of July from Rome!

Silvia Giagnoni, an esteemed writer, activist, and media scholar from Tuscany, has been teaching in John Cabot University’s Department of Communication and Media Studies since Fall 2021. With a rich background in journalism and a Ph.D. in Media Studies from Florida Atlantic University, Giagnoni has authored several significant works, including "Here We May Rest" and "Fields of Resistance." Her research and writing focus on social justice, immigration, and modern-day slavery. At JCU, she will be teaching Media, Culture, and Society, and Public Speaking in Fall 2024. Giagnoni is committed to fostering critical thinking and open dialogue in her students, emphasizing the importance of original thought in the age of AI-generated content.
