Always speechless in front of Bernini’s statue of Pluto and Proserpina.
Bernini overcomes the limits of marble, transforming stone into a vivid portrayal of raw emotion and dynamic tension. The sculpture captures the exact moment when Pluto seizes Persephone, their
expressions conveying a powerful story of struggle, power, and surrender.
Every detail, from the tension in Persephone’s grasp to the force in Pluto’s grip, reflects Bernini’s unparalleled skill in bringing myth to life.
Have you ever seen Bernini’s masterpieces at the Borghese Gallery?

This incredibile statue of Emperor Marcus Aurelius is part of the collection of the Capitoline Museums whereas a modern copy is visible in Piazza del Campidoglio.
It is made of gilded bronze and represents the Emperor Marcus Aurelius addressing to the soldiers. It is the only equestrian monument from antiquity left in Rome.
The statue was moved to the Capitoline Hill in 1538 when Michelangelo redesigned Piazza del Campidoglio, the area on top of hill. Its original location in ancient Rome is still debated and was probably a public square in central Rome, since equestria statues were considered honorific monuments, once destined to those who brought glory to Rom.
It was made around 176 AD to celebrate one of the campaigns the emperor led against Germanic tribes.
Lost are the reins of the horse while stirrups had not been introduced yet to the West.
Bronze statues are rare to find in Rome as metals were reused over time and this is a stunning example of gilding as well (even if new gold was applied in the Renaissance).
Saint Peter's Basilica: CDC cards are not required to access it. Only temperature control after security checks

This marvelous statue portrays Paolina Bonaparte, Napoleon’s sister. In the early 19th century Rome she was a bit of a loose cannon and loved to stir up scandal. Apparently, she was to pose as the goddess Diana, but preferred Venus and said that she had felt perfectly at ease being n**e, since the artist’s studio was well heated. 😜
Behind her, Hirst’s exhibit works currently at the Borghese Gallery.

The 18 century staircase has been decorated with spring azaleas. The tradition of Rome’s ‘Infiorata’ has been kept alive since 1930’s except for last spring due to the pandemic
This incredible statue (II century AD) was discovered in the early 1500’s in central Rome (near the Pantheon) where it probably decorated a temple dedicated to the Egyptian divinities Isis and Serapis. It represents the river Nile, leaning on a Sphinx, surrounded by 16 children, believed to symbolize the 16 cubits by which the river level rises during an ideal flooding. It was paired with a personification of the Tiber, now at the Louvre.
