Pietro RUFFO’s current exhibition at the gallery features “Fuori”, an installation that is both a backdrop and a stage drape.
The luxurious vegetation printed on it refers to the prehistoric forest that used to cover our planet fifty-five million years ago, when one or more meteors hit Earth, causing a period of intense global warming and the extinction of several living species.
The installation hints to the subconscious trope of the primeval forest, the Garden of Eden from which humans were eventually banned according to the Bible.
Francesco CLEMENTE’s current exhibition at Château La Coste presents six large-format canvases entitled “Wings of Desire”.
Featuring angels, a central motif in Clemente's work, these works reflect the artist's fascination with Sufism and Muslim mysticism, which he first discovered through the writings of the French philosopher Henry Corbin.
Other references include English poet and painter William Blake, Shiism, and the Swedish Christian theologian Emanuel Swedenborg.
Clemente says: “Angels are indifferent to cultural climates and so am I. Painting is my modest and megalomaniac attempt to recover the hearing of the soul”.
Pietro RUFFO’s solo exhibition “The Planetary Garden” opens tomorrow, Tuesday 14 March 2023, 18:30-20:30, at the gallery in Rome.
The exhibition continues Ruffo’s ongoing exploration of humankind’s relationship to the natural world, and of the impact of human activities upon the climate.

Last month, Sam Taylor-Johnson was interviewed by about her exhibition at the gallery in Rome.
- “If you could add a soundtrack to your Wired photo series, what would it be?” they asked her.
- “What a great question! There’s no single soundtrack or straight forward answer to this.
I could say opera and these pictures will become a different scale, I could say trance and then i feel I’m speaking to the environment or I could say Kendrick and you’d say huh? And I’d say he’s creatively the most inspiring music I can listen to right now. Like listening to free-form jazz and poetry. The track to these could be an operatic Kendrick country ballad with Doja Cat, or an ode to Patti Smith’s grit and spit”.
“The feeling of being caught between two worlds comes not from just straddling the globe between two continents but equally from the relationship between the physical self and the ethereal mind”.
Sam Taylor-Johnson’s exhibition “Wired” continues at the gallery until Tuesday 7 March.

Simon aWatson will be signing copies of his new book of photographs “Afternoon At Palazzo Altemps” tomorrow, Wednesday 25 January 2023, 18.00-19:30, at the gallery in Rome.
“The photographs in this monograph are a culmination of the many visits and observations I’ve made over the years” says Watson. “Indeed, some sculptures began to feel like old friends, and in some way I began a relationship with the museum and its contents, which I’ve photographed dozens of times. It wasn’t my original intention to make a book, but back in my studio the images willed their way from my archive and onto the pages of this volume.”

“Afternoon At Palazzo Altemps” - A book of photographs by Simon Watson ().
In his new book “Afternoon at Palazzo Altemps”, the distinguished Irish photographer Simon Watson explores the sublime 15th century palazzo near Piazza Navona in Rome.
Palazzo Altemps is very familiar to Watson from his many visits to Rome; he says:
“The photographs in this monograph are a culmination of the many visits and observations I’ve made over the years. Indeed, some sculptures began to feel like old friends, and in some way I began a relationship with the museum and its contents, which I’ve photographed dozens of times. It wasn’t my original intention to make a book, but back in my studio the images willed their way from my archive and onto the pages of this volume.”
Originally designed by Melozzo da Forlì (1438-1494), the building saw great events and occasions over the centuries, including performances by Mozart during his stay in Rome. It is now home to some of the greatest sculptures of antiquity found in the city, Roman masterpieces as well as works from Egypt and Greece, pieces already in Rome in ancient times.

Kiki SMITH’s exhibition at the gallery in Rome is open until Saturday 26 November.
As author Maggie Wright points out: “In Smith’s art, change expands to nurture a variety of forms. Humans turn to animals, animals to other animals; new beings are collaged from each. Bronze oxides, candles melt, and sunlight reemerges daily”.
Soon
✨Happy Birthday, Pietro Ruffo!✨
