“There are other Americas, but they are on Florida Street, Juan Baraja points out with this wonderful series, with this project that is at once multiple and univocal, diverse and compact. Because his journey along Florida Avenue seemed like an iter through the entire country, a classic road trip, as if, just like Whitman contained multitudes, the avenue contained in itself the nuances and borders of this country that is truly a continent. A country that, as we see in some of the photos, is still to be done, under construction, and that encompasses the urban and the rural, the elegant and the trashy, the commercial and the residential….” Miguel Albero.

In Dan Hallman’s “Pared Pintada” series there is no digital manipulation in the photographs. They are all made in found locations and created in-camera using long exposures with camera movement in a painterly way.

Hallman goes back to his technical darkroom training at Parsons New York stating: “If I could not achieve the image in the camera and dark room, I will not exhibit it”.

For the creation of this series, the artist is taking inspiration from legendary Minimalism painters including Bruce Nauman, Anne Truitt and Ellsworth Kelly to invoke a visual of Minimalist painting manifested in photographic form.
Hallman says: “I am inspired by taking something that is in front of you, manipulating it into my reality, creating art from something others would find mundane just walking by. I am blurring the lines of what you see and creating what is not there”.

Matías Ercole’s work is distinguished by a profound exploration of the drawing’s ability to reveal what would otherwise remain invisible. In his most recent works, the artist focuses on the analysis of ñlight as the core of his conceptual system: the works reflect the experience of dystopian and surreal geographies through the intricate exploration of the identity, body and iconographic aspects of light itself.
Presented as a prominent element, the sun is a fundamental and enigmatic presence whose symbolism is intertwined with the artist’s cultural roots. Ospite induces the viewer to probe the understanding of the concept of hospitality by raising questions about the relationship between the sun and the scene: is the sun hosted by the landscape or, conversely, is the landscape hosted by its light? In fact, Ospite also evokes the concept of the corporeity of the sun itself, exploringbthe problem of its identity as a non-unique form: marking its syncretic traits, it investigates it through Latin American, European and other cultural codes.

Spazio Nuovo is pleased to present Ospite, a new exhibition by artist Matías Ercole (Buenos Aires; 1987). This site-specific project offers viewers the opportunity to explore Ercole’s artistic vision, which brings together scratched works in ink and wax on canvas paper in dialogue with the architecture of the room itself.
By using space and light in an innovative way, the artist invites the viewer to explore their perceptions and to engage with multiple worldviews and the complexity of experience.

Juan Baraja’s narrative embarks on a profound exploration of the intricate relationship between humanity and its environment, where the threads of nature and industry are intricately woven into the fabric of existence. Through his lens, Baraja navigates the delicate balance between self-sufficiency and the expansive reach of global markets, offering viewers a poignant reflection on the complexities of modern existence.

At the heart of Baraja’s artistic vision lies a deep-seated fascination with Iceland’s geothermal experiments, an ambitious endeavor that epitomizes mankind’s relentless pursuit of innovation and progress. Drawing inspiration from this crucible of exploration, Baraja delves into the realms of utopian ideals, where dreams of sustainable living and harmonious coexistence with nature collide with the stark realities of contemporary society.

His photographic series Experimento Banana delves into an ongoing agricultural endeavor where bananas continue to thrive in the Icelandic soil nurtured by the warmth of geothermal embrace.

The development of new technologies and the digital ecosystem has expanded our ability to explore reality by replicating it or generating completely new realities.
There is now a hybridization between reality and virtuality; this does not diminish the value of the physical world but rather opens it up to new perspectives.

The development of new technologies and the digital ecosystem has expanded our ability to explore reality by replicating it or generating completely new realities.
There is now a hybridization between reality and virtuality, this does not diminish the value of the physical world but rather opens it up to new perspectives.

Art has the ability to transform and subvert reality, presenting it as a critical reinvention tool of modern times.
For the artist, reality is not a fixed concept but rather a fluid and fragile phenomenon which is experienced subjectively, influenced by both cultural and biological components.

These works are presented as photographs of the virtual space, exploring the possibilities of creating the illusion of a window (both metaphorical and literal) onto a new reality.
Specifically, these photorealistic 3D works are created with cutting-edge software designed to simulate reality and an anamorphic perspective that enhances their immersive nature.

Sergio Roger’s work is rooted in his life-long fascination with visual representations of beauty in ancient civilizations, especially the Graeco-Roman era and its modern counterparts. The artist reinterprets and subverts iconic elements of art history to allow us to break free from preconceived ideas about ancient civilizations. The medium of subversion is the array of materials he employs: where there was marble, he resorts to natural textile fibers.
Each of Sergio Roger’s works is unique and is created from the finest textiles, which mostly date back to the early 20th century: the artist himself carefully sources these materials from antique shops. Selected fabrics include antique linen and raw silk which bring history and soul into his work.
Through his opus, Roger invites us to deconstruct our preconceived vision of the past and to reflect on the permanence and idealism associated with traditional art.

The technical mastery and the complex elaboration of his textile sculptures are reflected in every stitch and detail. His works are born from the deep investigation of ancestral craft techniques, which are approached with a renewed and contemporary vision, and, at the same time, honor the story behind each fiber and its role throughout history. Antiquity is the main source of inspiration for the artist. Roger questions our perception of the past and describes History as a field that must be revisited with a critical eye. He sees archeology as a field of study replete with fiction and its own personal mythology, given that it was first extensively codified and practiced in the 19th century, right at the peak of colonialism. Thus it imposed a Euro-centric vision on our way of interpreting the past.
Through his opus, Roger invites us to deconstruct our preconceived vision of the past and to reflect on the permanence and idealism associated with traditional art.
