HAKANTO CONTEMPORARY

Joël Andrianomearisoa’s project in Antananarivo has now opened a new space.
Founded in 2020 in collaboration with his dear friend Hasnaine Yavarhoussen, the platform dedicated to artists for all their desires and emotions has extended in a new 3000m2 building entirely conceived and imagined by Joël Andrianomearisoa.

Joël Andrianomearisoa vit et travaille entre Paris, Antananarivo et Magnat-l’Étrange. S’exprimant à travers différents médiums et matériaux, son travail cherche à donner forme à des récits non explicites, souvent abstraits. Ses œuvres ont été exposées dans des institutions internationales.
Il fut également l’artiste du premier pavillon malgache lors de la 58ème Biennale de Venise en 2019 avec sa pièce I HAVE FORGOTTEN THE NIGHT.

A journey between the Bibliothèque Universitaire du Havre and the Bains des Docks.

Between two of the city’s iconic landmarks, Joël Andrianomearisoa presents “the alphabet of our feelings”.
Two phrases: “Sur la vague infinie se joue le théâtre de nos affections”, “Sur le crépuscule du temps se dessinent nos promesses éternelles“, are emblazoned in luminous letters on the façades of the Bains des Docks and the University Library. They form two halves of a poem that unfolds on the monumental scale of the city. The public will be able to discover the different manifestations of these fragments of poetry, notably in the university library, where fragments of his work are hidden inside books on the shelves, waiting to be discovered in a few months or ten years’ time. The artist has always sought, in his artistic process, to work on different scales. He felt it was important to combine the immediacy of his immense luminous phrases with a journey through the city, where the fragility of the words slips into everyday life, like seeds that germinate in our heads.

Joël Andrianomearisoa’s project received production funding from the Rubis Mécénat endowment fund as part of its support for contemporary artistic creation.

Nous sommes fiers d’annoncer que Hakanto Contemporary, quatre ans après son lancement en 2020 par Joël Andrianomearisoa et Hasnaine Yavarhoussen, inaugurera son nouvel espace le 15 septembre 2024 à Antananarivo avec un bâtiment de 2 000 m².

UNE SAISON, UNE THÉMATIQUE
Cette ouverture est l’occasion pour Hakanto Contemporary de présenter la nouvelle structure de sa programmation artistique qui propose au public à chaque nouvelle saison quatre types d’expositions, présentées en parallèle, autour d’une même thématique.
À l’occasion de l’inauguration du nouvel espace Hakanto Contemporary, Joël Andrianomearisoa a choisi la thématique HISTOIRES DE FAMILLE.

The foyer of HKW is once more transformed, this time into The Playground of All Possibilities as proposed by Joël Andrianomearisoa.

Andrianomearisoa's contribution to Ballet of the Masses invites all visitors to situate themselves in a space of ascendence and transcendence, of presence and infinity, of the grandiose and the intimate, created by his monumental cloud sculptures suspended from the ceiling, the form of which also suggest ghostly presences.
