The house reveals its history in the most unexpected corners.
In 1713 the property was owned by the nuns of San Lorenzo, who had rented it to a certain Simon Mascaroni, who gave the name Osteria "alla Simia" to his inn, because it was located on "Calle de la Simia o de le Spade."

In 1514, for example, the then "Osteria alla Simia" was destroyed in the devastating fire that hit Rialto, but only 13 years later there is evidence of its flourishing vitality.
It is written that it gave hospitality to important personalities of the time, such as the ambassadors of Pope Clement VII returning from Russia.

"This House is not a Hotel!"...but it is actually a place of Welcoming, since its very beginning. Cà della Scimmia, or the Monkey House, takes its name from the 'street' where it originated, which to be precise is called 'Calle de la Simia o de le Spade' [Calle of the Monkey or of the Swords].

As early as 27 February 1382, we have information that there was a tavern here under the sign of the Monkey. The premises were rented by the nuns of San Lorenzo who had received it as a gift on 5 September 1227 from Giovanni Venier.
