Salone Verde will again this year host one of the collateral events of the 60th International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia, entitled Foreigners Everywhere.

The exhibition called Cosmic Garden is the result of a long-standing collaboration between Indian artists Madhvi Parekh, Manu Parekh, and Karishma Swali, the creative director of the Chanakya School of Craft in Mumbai, a non-profit institute committed to the social emancipation of women through craftsmanship.

As the first presentation of their work in Venice, Cosmic Garden pays homage to the pluralistic beauty of Indian crafts and indigenous artistic traditions. Curated by Maria Alicata and Paola Ugolini, the exhibition will be hosted by Salone Verde - Art & Social Club in Venice, from 20 April to 24 November 2024.

Salone Verde ospiterà anche quest'anno uno degli eventi collaterali della 60ª Esposizione Internazionale d'Arte - La Biennale di Venezia, Stranieri Ovunque.

As the 2023 Architecture Biennale season comes to an end, gmp's exhibition ""UMBAU Nonstop Transformation"" is closing its chapter in Salone Verde.

UMBAU has been a journey of exploration and profound knowledge sharing on innovative architecture practices which we will continue to cherish in our future projects. Grateful for the enriching collaboration with gmp, as we approach the final week of UMBAU, we invite you to join us for a last look.

The exhibition is open until November 26th, from 10 am to 6 pm, free entry from Calle della Regina.

Con la chiusura della stagione della Biennale di Architettura 2023, l'esposizione di gmp "UMBAU Nonstop Transformation" sta chiudendo il suo capitolo in Salone Verde.

Quello di UMBAU è stato un viaggio di esplorazione e di profonda condivisione di conoscenze su pratiche innovative di architettura, che condivideremo nei nostri progetti futuri. In 2018, before Salone Verde's appearence was changed by the attentive refurbishement process which took place in the following years, ""Travel companion - really good things for the road"" was hosted as the first exhibition ever in the Salone.

Based on the travels of the authors Eberhard Holder and Micha Klein, the focus of this exhibition was on time-tested travel companions as well as on newly acquired travel objects that enable new possibilities of journeys and movement through changing technologies.

Travel companions on the road are objects that have to function under extreme conditions. These are thoughtfully made objects whose aesthetic develops through a process of reduction to the essential. Traces of use tell stories from their histories, acquiring, in the process, special value for the owner.

Nel 2018, prima che l'aspetto di Salone Verde venisse cambiato dall'attento processo di restauro che si è verificato negli anni successivi, è stata presentata la prima esposizione in Salone, ""Travel companion - really good things for the road"".

Basata sui viaggi degli autori Eberhard Holder e Micha Klein, il focus di questa esposizione era quello dei compagni di viaggio già sperimentati nel tempo, nonché di quelli più recentemente adottati, che offrono nuove possiblità di itinerari e movimento attraverso le diverse ecnologie.

I compagni di viaggio sono oggetti che devono funzionare sotto condizioni estreme. Sono oggetti costruiti accuratamente, la cui estetica si sviluppa seguendo un processo di riduzione all'essenziale. I segni di utilizzo narrano storie della loro esistenza, acquisendo, in questo processo, un valore speciale per il proprietario.

As one of the most peculiar features of Salone Verde, its unique calle window unfailingly catches the eye of everyone passing by Calle della Regina.

After the original openings were identified through the lintels and elements which were still present in the masonry, the bricks were removed. This opening towards the calle unveiled a completely intact original structure, including the old window grilles.

Unlike other openings in Salone Verde and their load bearing constructions, this process revealed some resilient elements which didn't require further work.

Uno degli elementi più particolari di Salone Verde, la finestra che dà sulla calle attira inevitabilmente l'attenzione di chiunque passi per Calle della Regina.

Dopo che le strutture originali sono state idenfiticate attraverso le architravi e gli elementi ancora presenti nella muratura, i mattoni sono stati rimossi. Questa apertura in direzione della calle, ha svelato la struttura originale completamente intatta, incluse le grate.

A differenza di altre aperture che sono state fatte in Salone Verde, e delle loro strutture portanti, questo processo ha svelato alcuni elementi resilienti che non hanno richiesto ulteriori lavori.

During the alternating exhibitions which have been hosting the personal expression of artists coming from different background, Salone Verde has been and will keep on being a space where artistic narrative finds its own identity.

For the Internation Artist's Day we want to celebrate those who make art as a life choice, and those who chose our space to host their creations.

After the last edition of the Art Biennale, when *Nomas Foundation graced our space with Francesa Leone's installations, we are excited to see whose artists' creations the 2024 Art Biennale will bring on.

Con l'alternarsi di mostre che accolgono l'espressione personale di artisti provenienti da differenti background, Salone Verde è stato e continua ad essere uno spazio in cui la narrazione artistica assume la propria identità.

In occasione della Giornata Internazionale degli Artisti vogliamo celebrare chi ha reso l'arte una scelta di vita, e chi sceglie il nostro edificio come spazio ideale per accogliere le proprie creazioni.

UMBAU bedeutet die kontinuierliche Transformation des Baubestandes. Hinsichtlich der heute gesetzten Klimaziele muss UMBAU von der Ausnahme zum Normalfall werden. Die Ausstellung stellt sieben gmp-Projekte als konkrete Fallbeispiele von UMBAUpraktiken des 21. Jahrhundert zur Diskussion, die sich mit dem Architekturerbe der Moderne auseinandersetzen. Gemeinsam ist den Projekten die konzeptionelle Annäherung beim UMBAU, die ausgehend von der umfassenden Bestandsaufnahme das Alte als eine architektonische Evolution fortschreibt und weiterentwickelt. Die Praxis zeigt, dass UMBAU dabei auch neue Setzungen und Überlagerungen integrieren muss. UMBAU ist nicht einmalig, sondern setzt sich als Nonstop Transformation in der Zukunft fort, als eine die Generationen überspannende Zusammenarbeit.”

As the end of UMBAU is slowly approaching, we want to look back on one of the first events hosted in our space.

On June 29, 2023, Salone Verde was delighted to welcome members of the Bundesstiftung Baukultur for a guided tour of gmp's UMBAU Nonstop Transformation, in the context of international symposium “Learning Cities - Stadt als Lernort”.

As an independent institution since 2007, the Bundesstiftung Baukultur (Federal Foundation of Building Culture), is a nationwide platform for building culture, which focuses its aim on the implementation of good building practices and the promotion of public discourse around these topics.

Il 29 Giugno 2023, Salone Verde è stato lieto di accogliere i membri della Bundesstiftung Baukultur per un tour guidato dell'esposizione UMBAU Nonstop Transformation di gmp, in occasione del simposio internazionale "Learning Cities - Stadt als Lernort".

Istituzione indipendente al 2007, la Bundesstiftung Baukultur (Fondazione Federale per la Cultura della Costruzione) è una piattaforma internazionale per la cultura della costruzione, che focalizza il proprio obiettivo sull'implementazione di buone pratiche costruttive, e la promozione del dibattito pubblico attorno a questi argomenti.architects

In the context of the 59th Art Biennale in 2022, we had the pleasure to host the collateral event "Take Your Time" by artist Francesca Leone.

Curated by Danilo Eccher and organized by Nomas Foundation, Take Your Time invited the public to take part into an immersive installation which brilliantly took shape into Salone Verde.

The exhibition was designed to let people "enter a condition suspended between personal and public experience, between the intimate and the universal imaginary sphere, between the terrestrial and the cosmic dimension".

Nel contesto della 59esima edizione della Biennale Arte nel 2022, abbiamo avuto il piacere di ospitare l'evento collaterale "Take Your Time", dell'artista Francesca Leone.

Curata da Danilo Eccher e organizzata da Nomas Foundation, Take Your Time invitava il pubblico a prendere parte in un'installazione immersiva che ha preso forma meravigliosamente in Salone Verde.

L'esposizione era strutturata in modo da lasciare che le persone "entrassero in una condizione sospesa tra l'esperienza pubblica e personale, tra la sfera dell'immaginario intimo ed universale, tra la dimensione cosmica e terrestre".

On September 15, 2023, the book “Bauen in Italien. Erfahrungen 1996–2023” was presented at the German Study Center in Venice.

Writer and journalist Petra Reski talked with gmp founding partner Volkwin Marg, editor and author of the book, and architect Clemens Kusch about hopes, illusions and successes.

On the following day, the guests participated in a guided tour of UMBAU Nonstop Transformation in Salone Verde, where they were given deep insights on each specific project by gmp displayed in the exhibition.

Il 15 Settembre 2023, è stato presentato il libro ""Costruire in Italia. Esperienze 1996–2023"" presso il Centro Tedesco di Studi Veneziani a Venezia.

La scrittrice e giornalista Petra Reski ha parlato con il fondatore di gmp Volkwin Marg, autore e curatore del libro, e l'architetto Clemens Kusch sulle speranze, illusioni e successi.

Il giorno seguente, gli ospiti hanno partecipato ad una visita guidata di UMBAU Nonstop Transformation in Salone Verde, dove hanno ricevuto approfondimenti specific di ciascun progetto di gmp esposto nella mostra.

Since our first approach to the renovation process of Salone Verde, maintaining the original essence of the space, especially avoiding intense changes, quickly became of the greatest importance to us.

We chose not to remove or modify the already existing graffiti, striving to preserve the space and keeping it as close as possible to how we found it, with a deep respect to it and to the city in which it was built.

At the start of 2023, we decided to involve restoration company .s.ve to help extend the life of our graffiti. A fixing solution was applied to all of them to make their design stand out and preserve their original pigment through time.

A partire dal primo approccio al processo di restauro di Salone Verde, ciò che è risultato di maggior importanza è stato mantenere l'essenza originale dello spazio, in particolar modo evitando cambiamenti intensi.

Abbiamo scelto di non rimuovere né modificare i graffiti già presenti, con la volontà di preservare lo spazio e mantenerlo il più possibilie vicino a come lo abbiamo trovato, provando un profondo rispetto verso esso e la città in cui è stato costruito.

All'inizio del 2023, abbiamo deciso di coinvolgere .s.ve per estendere la vita dei nostri graffiti. È stata applicata una soluzione su ognuno dei nostri graffiti per esaltare il loro design e preservare il pigmento originale nel tempo.

For decades, gmp have been focusing their purpose on UMBAU, which can be described as the “ongoing transformation of existing structures”.

Just as societies change, the requirements placed on buildings also change – the locations and contexts as well as the way in which the spaces are used. Structures that retain their original use are in just as much need of conversion as those that are assigned new functions.

Reusing and recycling materials, components, and infrastructures saves resources, avoids waste, and conserves the gray energy stored in existing buildings. Consequently, UMBAU as an ancient cultural technique is gaining new relevance in the face of climate change.

Per decenni, gmp ha focalizzato il proprio scopo su UMBAU, che può essere definita come la “continua trasformazione di strutture esistenti”.

Con il trasformarsi delle società, anche i requisiti delle costruzioni cambiano - le posizioni e i contesti, così come le modalità con cui vengono utilizzati gli spazi.
Le strutture che mantengono il loro utilizzo originale necessitano di una conversione tanto quanto quelle alle quali vengono assegnate nuove funzioni.

Il riutilizzo e il riciclo dei materiali, delle componenti e delle insfrastrutture rappresenta un risparmio di risorse, evita sprechi, e mantiene il livello di energia grigia inerente agli edifici già esistenti. Come conseguenza, UMBAU, in quanto antica tecnica culturale, sta acquisendo una nuova rilevanza di fronte al cambiamento climatico.architects

Considering today’s climate goals, UMBAU, as the continuous transformation of existing structures, must move from being the exception to becoming the rule.

The exhibition by gmp discusses recent case studies of conversion practices from the 21st century dealing with the architectural heritage of the Moderne movement.

What the projects have in common is a conceptual approach to UMBAU, which, starting from a comprehensive inventory of the existing, continues and develops the old as an architectural evolution.

Considerando quelli che sono gli obiettivi climatici di oggi, UMBAU, intesa come la continua trasformazione di strutture preesistenti, si pone l'obiettivo di diventare la regola più che l'eccezione.

L'esposizione di gmp si focalizza su recenti casi studio di pratiche di conversione del 21esimo secolo, relative all'eredità architettonica del movimento moderno.

I progetti sono accomunati da un approccio concettuale ad UMBAU, che, a partire da un completo inventorio di ciò che è già esistente, continua a svilupparlo in una continua evoluzione architettonica.

On May 19, 2023, Salone Verde welcomed international architectural company gmp (Gerkan, Marg and Partners) for the opening of their new exhibition “UMBAU Nonstop Transformation”, which will be hosted in our space until November 26.
On this occasion, seven of the over sixty projects that gmp accomplished concerning the conversion of pre-existing buildings, have been presented in our space as examples of successful resource-saving evolution practices.
