Part of our in-service training for our staff on intervention planning, and let's just say things got a little, well, competitive trying to complete the trainers' tasks. We at Ujeed are delighted to announce the launching of the Hala Ibrahim Scholarship.

Hala Ibrahim is one of the leaders in the field of Special Educational Consulting in Jordan. She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and a Master's degree in special education and teaching. Hala served local communities in Jordan for 45 years, during which, she offered educational sessions, offered trainings to parents, teachers and therapists, arranged and managed several support groups, as well as collaborated with several local and international organisations to raise awareness and spread knowledge in areas related to people with special needs.

This scholarship is offered to honour Mrs. Ibrahim, and to celebrate her journey of giving and productivity, around her time of retirement.

The scholarship will offer a free of charge training to one trainee attending our famous theiretical "Subjects in Paediatric OT" training. It will be targeted towards outstanding occupational therapists who will be drivers of positive change within our Jordanian community.

In retrospect, the group of trainees attending our 2023 theoretical training were allowed the opportunity to apply for the scholarship, and after careful consideration, the scholarship was offered to the distinguished Hala Al Lala. Congratulations, Hala. we trust that you have a bright future as a paediatric occupational therapist waiting ahead.

We hope that this scholarship will encourage more paediatric occupational therapists to endorse new learning opportunities.

We occupational therapists in the Arab world will not celebrate World Occupational Therapy Day in solidarity with our colleagues, friends, brothers, and sisters in P.alestin.e and we ask for an immediate cease fire.

Nour Raed AbuHaia was a hardworking occupational therapist from Gaza. She was killed 12 days ago along with her entire family during the horrific massacre while fleeing from the north of Gaza to the south after orders of evacuation!

Thinking that she can have a safe escape, the I.srael.i m.ilitary b.ombed them. Little that she knows that there is no safe place in G.aza.

With over 7000 c.ivilians k.illed in G.aza - 3000 of which are c.hildren- all are killed including health professionals, still organizations such as WFOT and AOTA fail to condemn these massacres or call for humanitarian aids like what WHO did.

Be true to the theme of this year and stand up with ALL occupational therapy community EQUALLY

Fellow OTs we invite you to boycott the OT celebration until WFOT takes a stand and demands ceasefire in Gaza.

In response to the shameful AOTA statement regarding the recent events in the occupied land of Palestine, we at Ujeed feel the need and the urgency to speak up; being in the field we are in, and living in a country that shares a border with Palestine.

We, at Ujeed, stand tall in protest against the entity illegally occupying Palestinian land, and categorically refuse to accept them as "rulers" of the country. Their oppressive presence has brought nothing but suffering, discord, and infringement upon the Palestinain's rights and freedoms.

More than 6000 Palestinians have been killed by Israelis in the last 15 years, and no similar statements were made by the AOTA, which makes us at Ujeed wonder whether Israeli lives are more important than Arabs'. When you advocate for human rights, you cannot pick and choose.

The Human Rights Watch, B’Tselem and Amnesty International have all recognized Israel to be an apartheid state and have been continuously raising their concerns of the war crimes committed by the Israeli occupation forces against Palestinians.

For 16 years, Israel has subjected Palestinians in Gaza to a brutal military siege, cutting Gaza off from the rest of the world and trapping over 2 million Palestinian residents inside. Israel's siege on Gaza has caused severe shortages of life-saving medicine, food, electricity, and clean water that make life unbearable.

With that in mind, it is shameful to witness the AOTA’s complete dismissal of multiple human rights organizations speaking against the crimes committed by Israel.

We firmly believe that true justice and sovereignty should be granted to the people, by the people, and for the people. And this cannot be done with the ruling of an unjust occupying force, spreading their illegal settlements on land that they do not own.

Under international law, Palestinians have the right to defend themselves against Israeli violence and to resist Israel’s illegal military occupation. Apartheid is a crime against humanity and Israel commits countless war crimes on a daily basis.

We declare, with unwavering conviction, that we will take a stand, united against unjust laws, until the day when true justice and liberty prevail once more.

يعتبر اللعب مكونًا رئيسيًا للتعلم، بحيث يساعد اللعب على تنظيم المشاعر وتنمية المهارات الاجتماعية ومعالجة المعلومات الحسية وغيرها الكثير.

Play is a key component for learning, it affects the child's emotional regulation, social skills, sensory processing and much more.

إقترح العالم بياجيه أنه لكي يتمكن الأطفال من التفكير في الأشياء و فهمها، فإنهم يحتاجون إلى اللعب، تمامًا كما قد يتحدث الكبار عن الأشياء من أجل فهمها واكتشافها.

اللعب هو لغة الطفولة التي تسهل عملية التفكير.

بينت الأبحاث أن اللعب يعزز نمو الدماغ، وخاصة في منطقة "اللوزة الدماغية" وهي المنطقة المسؤولة عن إدراك المشاعر.
يعزز اللعب أيضًا نمو قشرة الفص الجبهي مما يساهم في تنمية الوظائف التنفيذية، مثل الذاكرة والانتباه والتنظيم والتخطيط.

ما الذي يجعله "لعباً"؟
الدافع الداخلي: يلعب الأطفال لأن اللعب ممتعٌ وليس من أجل المكافآت والمعززات الخارجية, اللعب هو المكافأة!

الاستمتاع بالوسيلة فضلاً عن الغاية النهائية: الاستمتاع بعملية اللعب بدلاً من التركيز على هدف نهائي.

من الصعب على البالغين اتباع قيادة الطفل للعب عندما لا يتمكنون من رؤية هدف أو نتيجة فورية. فقد يبدو أنهم "يلعبون فقط" ولا شيء آخر مهم يحدث. لكن تذكر دائمًا أن اللعب هو أكثر مما تراه العين. فتسمح صفات اللعب هذه للطفل بالتوصل إلى أفكار لتأسيس المرونة والتفاعل الاجتماعي.

Piaget argued that in order for children to think things through, they need to play things through, just like adults might talk things through in order to figure things out.
Play is the language of childhood that facilitates the thought process.

Research shows that play promotes growth in the brain, especially in the Amygdala which is responsible for the perception of emotions.
Play also promotes growth in the prefrontal cortex which contributes to executive functions such as memory, attention, organization and planning.

What makes it "play"?
Intrinsic motivation: children play because it is fun, and not for external rewards. Play is the reward!

Enjoying the mean over the end: enjoying the process of play instead of focusing on an end goal.

It is difficult for adults to follow the child's lead when they can't see an immediate goal or outcome. It might seem like they are "just playing" and nothing else is happening. But always remember that play is more than meets the eye. These play qualities allow the child to come up with ideas to establish resilience and social interactions.
