Enhance your sharpening routine with the use of a Nagura stone.
By gently rubbing the Nagura on your diamond stone in circular motions, you create a fine slurry that improves sharpening precision and edge refinement. This method offers a more polished finish and helps maintain the consistency of your tools. For a detailed guide on using Nagura effectively, visit the link in our bio.

How many knives can be sharpened with one diamond stone?
We cannot answer this question in general, as it depends on the blade, your technique, and the grit, but we can tell you how to use the stone for a long time.
When maintaining your stone during sharpening, we recommend the use of a Stone Resurfacer and a tempered glass plate (8mm thickness). The particles in the Stone Resurfacer help to prepare the surface of the stone while minimizing wear and tear on the stone.
NSK Kogyo's Flattener is easy to flatten, yet very powerful. We recommend using the Stone Resurfacer and tempered glass plate at the beginning and end of the sharpening process.

SHARPENING STONE LOST ITS ABRASIVENESS, IT NEEDS METATE
Metate (目立て) is the process of reviving the abrasive power of a Diamond sharpening stone. When a diamond sharpening stone is used, the stone particles become even finer between the blade and the stone, and these particles can get into the gaps between the stone and reduce its grinding power. Removing those particles using some tools on each grit; Metate can restore the abrasiveness of the stone, it is especially important to refresh a stone with Metate on rough sharpening stones.

Kiridashi Shichirin is a valuable traditional craft that is currently made by only two companies in the world.
Maruwa Kogyo has been committed to the traditional manufacturing method for many years.
Shichirin Grills are cut and mined in blocks, then individually hand-painted and fitted with metal fittings. They are carefully finished by craftswomen who have worked for the company for many years.
Winter is the time when Shichirin is most used in Japan. It is a remnant of the fact that people used it as a heater or for cooking in the cold winter.
We are currently low on stock in our online store due to many orders, but we are accepting pre-orders if you are interested. Please feel free to send us a message.
We are also looking for new retail partners. Please feel free to contact us if you are a store that would like to support our craftsmen with this great product.
If you are starting to feel stuck in a rut with your BBQ this year, you should definitely try the Japanese Shichirin grill.
This cool black Shichirin is called a "Neri Shichirin" and is the most common and classic form of shichirin in Japan.
It is used for cooking barbecue and yakitori🍗🍢
The round shape is very efficient because it cooks evenly no matter where the food is cooked, and the he at-resistant ceramic material is ideal for cooking over charcoal.
Introducing our versatile tongs! With a slim and simple design, they're perfect for any occasion. Whether you're picking up meat or gripping vegetables, these tongs make cooking a breeze.
The small grooves on the tips ensure a secure grip on even the thinnest of slices, and the round hole prevents food from sticking. Plus, they're made of durable and easy-to-clean stainless steel material.
Kiridashi Shichirin is a traditional Japanese round shape.
Himawari means sunflower in Japanese. It is characterized by a large open top like a sunflower.
The 60cm shichirin produced by Maruwa Kogyo is particularly large in Japan.
Made of blocks of clay, cut from the wall and dug into shape, they are lightweight and retain the heat that is characteristic of Kiridashi Shichirin.
With a steel plate wrapped around it, this Chokaku Shichirin is recommended for frequent BBQers and restaurants🍖🔥🔥
What color Shichirin do you want to have at your BBQ?
In Japan, the Mikawayaki Konro comes in a variety of colors, such as red, black, green, and white. You can choose the color that best matches your family color or BBQ style.
If you're interested, please check out Komon's partner shops or their e-commerce site!
Have you prepared for the BBQ season yet?
Grilling with a Shichirin, a Japanese-style charcoal grill, can maximize the efficiency of charcoal burning. Especially if you want to cook delicious food with minimal charcoal usage, such as Yakitori, you should definitely try a Shichirin.
The Wakatsuki family has been crafting traditional abacus for four generations, but with changing times, demand dwindled. Determined to keep the family business alive, they started creating new products.
But the road to success was far from easy.
As Wakatsuki spoke of that time, his expression darkened, conveying the gravity of the situation.
After experimenting with different ideas like using abacus beads to make accessories, they found their inspiration in chopsticks - a utensil used by Japanese people every day. They decided to use the sturdy natural smoked bamboo, known as Susudake, which had been traditionally used for abacus shafts.
Challenges with Using Natural Materials
Working with natural Susudake bamboo can be a complex process.
As it has been utilized for decades, and sometimes even over a century, as the framework for thatched-roof houses, some pieces may have insect damage and may not be fit for use. Despite having a beautiful surface pattern, if the interior is damaged, its strength will be compromised, making it unusable.
According to craftsman; Wakatsuki, selecting the right material is a challenging task as it involves splitting the bamboo and determining its suitability for use.
Coming soon on March 19th, 2023!
Susudake Chopsticks created by Wakatsuki are made of natural materials, giving each pair a unique characteristic. These chopsticks feature a beautiful dark brown sheen with natural speckled patterns in shades of brown and beige. The speckled patterns developed naturally over time and vary in color, making each pair truly unique and stunning.

Maruwa Kogyo was seriously damaged by the earthquake on June 19, 2022, and we have worked very hard to ensure that the Kiridashi Shichirin, which has been produced since 1976 and is currently made by only two companies in the world, will not be discontinued. As a result, we were not able to reach our crowdfunding goal, but we are happy to have had the opportunity to make it known to so many people.
We hope you will join us in using the traditional Japanese Kiridashi Shichirin during this summer's barbecue season in this summer. Your interest and purchases will go a long way in making Maruwa Kogyo a sustainable company!
