JOHN LOBB KYOTO

The new boutique is located in historic Shinmonzen and housed in one of the city’s traditional wooden machiya townhouses.

John Lobb commissioned architect to design the store. The founder of France and Japan based Studio Teruhiro Yanagihara, he brought his expert touch to ensuring the store blends seamlessly into Kyoto’s aesthetic.

It balances the modernity of the brand’s new architectural signature with a determination to preserve the city’s time-honoured customs. The store design features several mainstays of Kyoto’s cultural heritage, including an interior patio and a traditional wooden façade with two white fabric Noren curtains hung over the storefront.

Celebrating the opening of the house new store in Kyoto, John Lobb reveals a play on the zoori, traditional Japanese footwear originally worn with a kimono. The pair is built on a meticulously hand-crafted tatamiomote insole made of woven bamboo. John Lobb leather is used for the tongue (« hanao » in Japanese) and the sides of the sole.

This pair is exclusively and only available in John Lobb Kyoto store.
