The one and only Master Goyō, who could draw women’s figures like no other, died at the age of 39 of meningitis. And so only 13 prints were produced in the short span of his independent career, when he finally got free of the publisher’s demands.
In this print we can observe the incredible details of her hair, gathered naturally in her hand and brush.

Do you know when the first designs for traditional Japanese tattoos were created? 🧐This beautiful nine tail fox tattoo was brought to life from scratch in 1827, for the series of woodblock prints depicting characters from a famous Chinese novel. The prints were so popular, people started bringing them to tattoo artists to have them copied to their skin in real life. ✨

JUST A MOMENT! 😲😨
or Shibaraku in Japanese, is a special role in Kabuki theater. The powerful hero enters the stage to stop the ultimate evil, in a seemingly hopless situation. ⚔️
On this print we see Ichimura Uzaemon IX (1725-1785). He is dressed in suo costume with square shaped sleeves that look like wings. If you look closely, you will see he is wearing a wig with stiff hair paper called chikaragami. The makeup is called suji-guma, to make him look as fierce as possible. There is also a 2 meter sword behind his back - no evil can survive him✨

How is Moun the magician is casting a spell? Exploding rocks radiate from behind his
head as a result of the spell he is casting by means of a ritual Buddhist gesture. He performs it with his hands and fingers. A bowl heaped with salt stands in front of him, representing purity.
The artist behind this print was inspired by Hokusai's illustration of the popular novel Strange Tales of the Bow Moon (Chinsetsu yumihari-zuki)
