Had an opportunity to participate in the ongoing Kisumu County Monitoring and Evaluation policy and framework formulation process, conducted by the office of Kisumu County Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate - at Rabuor Chief's Camp.

Facilitating a mental health session to the learners and teachers of Nyakakana Secondary school.

It has been a two days process of deliberating on Kisumu County Youth Development policy process facilitated by the department of sports and youth, clerk (drafter) of the assembly and the office of Kisumu County attorney.

The policy is geared towards:
1. Creation of youth coordination framework at the County Government of Kisumu ;
2. Resourcing of youth programs; and
3. Financing and equipping of youth empowerment centers.

Today we delved into discussions on synergizing our work with NEX Medium Communication, aimed at producing and amplifying audio-visual work for civic partners across Western Kenya regions.

They equally offer services that strive to change communication dynamics through inspiring young leaders, mentors and entrepreneurs across the region.

The University of Nairobi confirms that kitchen garden forms a solution that can address food insecurity and bring in self reliance. Households have labour power - the physical ability of household members to generate income.

In order to realize this, we are currently conducting trainings to households within Kadibo Sub-County, in order to create more resilience on food security using kitchen garden. Currently promoting the concept of sack and raised bed garden.

Partnering with Strathmore University Business School , we offered training in business development and marketing to the small scale traders in Okana Village at Pavilions for Okana .

With understanding that wellness program help to improve the health of a company's workforce, SRI Team had a wellness filled day at the Kisumu Impala Sanctuary with Coach Stephen Okoth Okumu .

The focus is to elevate the health of our teams and minimize stress as much as possible through increasing overall satisfaction in staff role by making them feel more invested in their work.

Sustainable Rural Initiatives Team had an insightful two days visit by Architects from The Netherlands, one being the professor behind the SRI Pavilions for Okana .

These two days visit is going to create partnership with Kenya Museum Society that will support conservation of the community and national heritages within County Government of Kisumu - with key focus on monumental buildings that will see architectural refurbishment to preserve their heritage.

Motivation to our work is the impact created in the lives of people living in the rural areas.

Through a joint activity with Helping Hands Farm Initiative, Inc. , more households continue to benefit from the kitchen garden technique.

Mr. Fredrick Odhiambo, a young farmer at Okana, shared the progress of his kitchen garden and the impact created in the family financial basket for the last 3 months. He confirmed that the sack vegetable garden technique has reduced his spending cost on purchase for vegetables by KES 100 per every three days. This means that, he saves KES 250 per week and KES 1,000 p.m. Saving therefore means journey to food security and self-reliance.

As SRI marks 10 years of service to the rural communities of Kisumu County, we do not forget the skills and talents that our Youth in Action department has natured, connected and impacted.

The tournament ended on 19th Dec 2023 with a banger from Okana FC, the winners of SRI 2023 Annual Tournament.

From SRI family, we extend a hearty congratulations to the winners of 2023 as we look forward to our 10th year anniversary celebration. Not forgetting the efforts of all the other Teams, we are all winners, but one must be crowned at the end of the day.
