"Hi DMRC, let me share m story it can motivate someone. You see, back in 2016, I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes. Okay, let me take you back a little what happened before the diagnosis.
I am a lean person, sijawaikuwa mnono. But my work involved lots of sitting, I am a driver. I had this friend who used to work out and he could tell me to start working out..I could tell him mimi sio overweight so I do not need to work out. Poor me, I didn't know that working out was to keep me fit🥲🥲. Si mnajua vile madere hukula, I was a long distance once..from Nairobi to Mombasa..Nyama kule, fast foods and so much more.
Come 2016, there was a medical camp and free screening in our area..at this time, my body used to be tired all the time and nilijiambia ni uchovu ya driving..my fiancéé jokingly told me tukapimwe rbs.., to my surprise..my sugars were at 10. I was worried, later that week I went to the hospital and that is when I was diagnosed with prediabetes. Luckily, the doctor I got guided me well on how to reverse my sugars.
Let me tell you..saai exercise lazima
Eating healthy lazima
I am more fit.
My sugars are back to normal.
I am a happy person.

If the person living with diabetes in your home finds it hard to change their diet, it could be because of the family members😖😖.
Maybe the person is being served brocolli as others eat fast foods, sodas and the rest. A craving becomes worse when a situation is presented. This example aligns well with alcohol addiction where someone has to be put in isolation where they can't see alcohol or associate with people that drink. In this scenario, adopt a health diet for all.
When going for shopping, include everyone when coming up with a shopping list, even the children. They will know what to expect and be ready to eat. Also, if you can, find a nutritionist who will educate you as a family, it will be of great help. Reading food labels should be part of what you need to know.

Question-If you are introduced to injections, does your doctor teach you how to inject and areas of injection au anakuwachilia tu?🤔
INSULIN INJECTION SITES
-The shaded areas are sites where insulin can be given.
-The stomach is the best site for insulin absorption.
-Avoid injecting insulin next to the belly button.

INSULIN HYPERTROPHY? What is it?🤔🤔
This is to those that inject insulin
Have you ever noticed a lump or even a scar tissue under the skin where you inject yourself?
It is believed to be as a result of repeated insulin injestions which leads to accumulation of extra fat at the site. It occurs most often in people with diabetes who must undergo multiple daily injections, but can also occur in people who wear multiple devices such as an insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor.
How to prevent it
-Rotate the injection site. Move the injection site a finger's length (about an inch) away from the last site.
-Use a new needle for every injection to avoid contamination
-Do not inject the area till it heals
-Talk to your doctor who may consider hanging to short-acting insulin
-For those people who are using pumps or continuous glucose monitors, changing sites as prescribed is recommended
If you stop injecting on the area, it usually goes away after a few weeks and sometimes on its own. It should not be a cause for worry
We hope you have learnt something au namna gani?

SITES NOT SUITABLE FOR INSULIN INJECTIONS
Did you know?
That there are places where you should not inject insulin?
-Do not inject insulin near joints. Why?
-Do not inject on a scar tissue
-Avoid injecting on or too close the navel/belly button. This is because the navel is tougher and makes insulin absorption less consistent
-Avoid the groin area
-The middle of your abdomen
Also, do not inject insulin too deep because your body may absorb it too quickly and they could be painful.
Don't inject insulin just anywhere. Insulin should be injected into the fat just underneath the skin rather than into muscle, which can lead to quicker insulin action and greater risk of low blood sugar. The stomach, thighs, buttocks, and upper arms are common injection sites because of their higher fat content.
Well, if you did not know all these, now you know. Right?

We recently saw a sad video going around, the video of a man of God collapsing at the alter and later passed on😭. Did you see it? Unconfirmed sources said it was cardiac arrest, other uncornfirmed sources said he also had diabetes. That video evoked painful memories in me as the founder of DMMC.
It took me back to 2013 when I lost my dad in an almost similar way. A day like Today he is was okay and talking on the phone, and the following day I get a call that he has fallen and upon reaching the hospital, he went to be with the Lord😪😪. I hope that the video could be pulled down for the sake of the family.
Why am I writing this? 🤔🤔
I want you to take charge of your condition. It is true that diabetes increases the risk of congestive heart failure, cardiac arrest and other heart related conditions. Do not be a carefree, please🙏. Unapima unapata your sugars are reading 20mmol na hushtuki😖😖infact you say you are feeling okay so no big deal. How now? The other day when we were doing free blood pressure check..we got a couple of people with high readings, but unbothered🙄🙄( zitarudi tu, pressure yangu inakuwanga juu but itarudi tu yenyewe).
-Each day, make it your goal to control your sugars..complications are something else do not let them set in..each day, learn something new that will give you better control💪💪. If this meal is not working, try another..if one treatment is not working..seek second opinion wherever you are.
-I will also urge you to take good care of your mental health. Your stress levels impact how well controlled your sugars are. To men, usiweke mambo mingi kwa kichwa. Do not let pressure and sugar to pile up..speak up, ongea!💪💪 It helps..what you cannot change, wachana nayo.
-If you think food/education is expensive, try health. Each day, jaribu kukula healthy, jaribu exercise hata k**a ni evening walking pale estate. Usiseme mimi exercise siwezani😪😪it will help you a big deal Susan.
-Usijihukumu, diabetes is not the end..do not let it rob you happiness. Live and let live. Ile meal mnaita diabetic meal is a healthy meal. Enjoy, after all, no one is getting out alive✌️✌️.
In your day to day live, do your best and let God take charge.
As I pen off, my prayer is that you start doing something..that is if you have been reluctant. Push yourself, you can do it.
From me and the DMMC team, we believe that you are stronger than diabetes. We care❤️❤️.
Kindly share this info to anyone you feel it will help.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MIXTARD INSULIN AND ACTRAPID INSULIN
The other day we posted about actrapid and some members asked its difference with mixtard insulin..
Actrapid is a fast acting insulin..once you inject, it starts to lower your sugar in 1/2 an hour and its effect lasts for about 8 hours.
On the other hand, mixtard is a combination of fast acting insulin and long acting insulin. Once you inject, it starts to lower your sugars 1/2 an hour and its effect lasts for 24 hours.
Please note- You can not self prescribe, you need to use insulin that has been recommended by your doctor.
We have various types of insulin available actrapid, mixtard, Novorapid, Novomix and much more.

How to manage neuropathy pain
Managing neuropathic pain involves a combination of medication, lifestyle changes and alternative therapies.
1. The first way of managing neuropathic pain is through prescribed medication.
2. You can as well manage the pain through exercise. Ensure that you walk at least 30 minutes daily. Swimming, yoga and massaging your feet will also help.
3.A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can support nerve health. avoid foods that exacerbate inflammation, such as processed foods and refined sugars.
4. Lifestyle modifications- Quit smoking, maintain a healthy weight, and limiting alcohol consumption to alleviate symptoms
5. Stress management: Techniques like mindfulness meditation, deep breathing exercises, and yoga can help reduce stress, which can exacerbate neuropathic pain.
6. Support groups: Connecting with others who have neuropathy can provide emotional support and helpful coping strategies.
7. Alternative therapies include Acupuncture, massage therapy, and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) are alternative treatments that may provide relief for some individuals.
Always consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new treatment regimen, especially if you're considering complementary or alternative therapies.

Let us Pray🙏
"Dear Lord, we thank you for the gift of life, we thank you for the new week. As we plan on our week, may your light illuminate our way. We lift up those affected by diabetes in our prayers today. Grant them strength to manage their condition, courage to face challenges, and hope for a brighter, healthier future. May they find comfort in your love and support, and may their journey be filled with healing and peace. We break every stronghold against our name. We remember the sick in hospital, stretch your healing hand oh God and heal them. May you meet us at our points of need, may you provide for us in abundance. May we live to enjoy the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. As we go our today, may we never return home empty handed. We pray this believing and trusting in Jesus name. Amen!
Conceiving and diabetes
Can you conceive when you have diabetes?
Yes, you can conceive when you have diabetes, be it type 1 or type 2. However, you need to manage diabetes effectively before you conceive and during pregnancy to reduce the risks between you and baby.
Here is what you need to consider
Before you conceive, strive to attain sugar readings that are close to normal as much as possible. This will reduce the risk of birth defects and complications.
Talk to your doctor, let them be aware of your desire to conceive. The doctor will then review your diabetes management plan, recommend adjustments and adress any concerns.
Get your A1C checked, it should be below 6.5%
When the sugars are not controlled, here are the risks
-Uncontrolled sugars increase birth defects
-They increase the chances of suffering a miscarriage
-Could lear to coplications such as preeclampsia, gestationa diabetes and microsoma
You need proper planning and management. You need to closely work with your doctor before and after delivery.

ORGAN SHUTDOWN
When we asked about what worries you? Some said organ shutdown
Okay let us talk about this fear. Diabetes does not directly cause organ shutdown but poor control, elevated sugars will overtime lead to serious complications that can damage organs.
This is how diabetes will impact vital organs
Kidneys-Elevates sugars can damages blood vessels and the units that filter in the kidneys. This can lead to chronic kidney disease and even kidney failure.
Heart_Chronically high sugars can lead to build up of plaques in arteries, narrowing them hence increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke
Eyes-high blood sugar can damage the retina which can lead to vision problems and blindness.
Nerves-Neuropathy can damage the nerves throghout the body causing pain, numbness, tingling and weakness affecting digestion, bladder control and sexual function.
Feet-Nerve damage and poor circulation can lead to foot ulcers, infection and even gangrene which can lead to amputation.
Bottom line, when you are managing your sugars well, you do not have to worry about organ shutdown. Ensure you check on your diet, exercise, take your medication religiously.
If you would like to see a doctor or you have a wound that needs attention, you can visit us at Ngara shopping complex, ground floor. For more info, contact 0700582134.
Happy Easter everyone! May this period inspire renewed hope, courage, and true love in your hearts. Wishing you and your loved ones a happy Easter holiday!

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈𝐬 𝐚 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐠𝐚𝐫?
The term "blood sugar" refers to the concentration of glucose, a simple sugar that is found in a set volume of blood. The concentration of glucose in our blood changes continually throughout the day. It can even vary significantly from minute to minute.(Ever wondered why your Glucometer gives you two different readings a minute apart in testing? Well, the Glucometer is not faulty. That's how our bodies work. When you eat, it can rise dramatically. When you exercise it will often drop.
The blood sugar measures that doctors are most interested in is the fasting blood sugar, post-meal (2hrs) and HBA1c (A1c). The most informative blood sugar reading is the post-meal blood sugar measured one and two hours after eating.
𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐠𝐚𝐫
Fasting blood sugar is usually measured first thing in the morning before you have eaten any food (8hrs or more). A truly normal fasting blood sugar (which is also the blood sugar a normal person will see if they have not eaten for a few hours) is:
𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥: Between 3.9 mmol/L and 5.0 mmol/L .
People whose blood sugar tests at this level do not develop diabetes over the next decade or longer. Those with normal blood sugars above 5.1 mmol/L often do. Nevertheless, any fasting blood sugar below 5.6 mmol/L is normal.
𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭-𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐠𝐚𝐫 (𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐥)
The blood sugars of normal people are:
- Under 6.6 mmol/L one or two hours after a meal.
-Most normal people are under 5.5 mmol/L two hours after eating.
𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐄: People living with diabetes should target normal blood sugar levels as indicated above or, at worse, 1 point higher.
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐛𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐋𝐨𝐰 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐠𝐚𝐫?
Blood sugars under 3.9 mmol/L are considered to be hypoglycemic and should be avoided.
If you are not on insulin or a drug that causes your pancreas to secrete insulin, the above blood sugar range of 3.9 or 3.8, while uncomfortable, is not dangerous unless there is evidence that it is continuing to drop. This is because home blood sugar meters often read lower than lab values, so a reading in that very slightly lower range might actually be normal.
However, if you are using insulin or a drug that causes your body to secrete insulin, you must err on the side of caution and keep your blood sugar well over 3.9 mmol/L.
This is because home meters may also read higher than your actual blood sugar so your 3.9 mmol/L. might be slightly lower. Even more importantly, the insulin or oral drug that has lowered your blood sugar to this level may still be working to lower your blood sugar even more. So if you don't treat a reading near 3.9 mmol/L, it may go on to drop to a dangerously low level.
The dangerous levels of low blood sugar--the hypos that may cause unconsciousness or require a visit to the ER. At those levels, brain damage can occur.
𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐬𝐮𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐬:
-Fasting: 4.4 mmol/L
-One Hour After Meals: 6.8 mmol/L
-Two Hours After Meals: 6.1 mmol/L
NOTE: Your doctor should advise you on what ranges work for you depending on other underlying factors.
𝐇𝐁𝐀𝟏𝐜 (𝐀𝟏𝐜) 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬
Unlike the Random or Fasting blood sugar measurements, the HbA1c test does not measure how much glucose is in your blood. Instead, it measures how much glucose has become permanently bonded to your red blood cells. From this, it estimates how much glucose those red blood cells have been exposed to over the past several months.
The Hba1c is reported as a percentage. This percentage reports what percent of your red blood cells have glucose bonded to them.
𝐀 𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝟏𝐜 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝟒.𝟔% 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝟓.𝟒%
Unfortunately, the A1c test can sometimes give a misleading result. This is prone to occur if you have anemia, abnormally long-lived red blood cells, or certain unusual red blood cell genes. The test assumes you have a normal number of red blood cells, so any condition that changes your concentration of red blood cells can produce misleading HBA1C results.
What HBA1c is Good Enough for a Person with Diabetes?
If your doctor tells you any A1c below 7.5% is "good control," ask him or her to define what "good control" means. Does it mean "very likely to get neuropathy, retinal damage, and heart disease?" Research has shown that people who have had diabetes for decades found that when keeping post-meal blood sugars below 7.77 mmol/L, they most often see Hba1c, which ranges from the 5.7% level down. This level is good to avoid the classic diabetic complications. Aim for that!
Heart attack risk rises in a straight line fashion as HbA1c rises from 4.6% but only becomes a significantly raised threat as HbA1cs go over 6%.
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐃𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐈𝐭 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐬?
𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
If you want to avoid diabetes-related complications, following doctors' orders is not enough. You must spend some time educating yourself about how your body works and what is in the food you eat. There is no pill or medication that will give you normal blood sugars without this effort.
Learn What Foods Your Body Can Handle
By meticulously monitoring your blood sugar levels before and after meals, you'll learn which foods cause spikes and should be reduced. The method encourages starting with your usual diet then gradually cutting back on high-carb foods while increasing your intake of vegetables. Testing is crucial; it helps identify the foods that negatively affect your blood sugar.
𝐄𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐜 𝐌𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐬
It's time to stop blaming yourself for causing your diabetes. No matter what you read in the media or what your doctor tells you, diabetes is not caused by obesity. Believing that you caused your diabetes leads to self-hatred. Self-hatred leads to denial. Denial leads to amputation, blindness, and heart attack death. Contrary to the notion that diabetes is a self-inflicted consequence of poor eating, recent findings reveal a complex interplay of genetic factors and environmental toxins that impair the body's ability to regulate blood sugar.
𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐞
Exercise is a powerful tool in managing blood sugar levels and is beneficial for everyone, especially those with diabetes. For individuals facing insulin resistance, engaging in regular physical activity is an effective strategy to control blood sugar. Even for those dealing with insulin insufficiency, exercise is crucial in overall health management and supports blood sugar control. Regular exercise can make a significant difference in managing diabetes and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐬
If you can't get to normal blood sugar levels by modifying what you eat and adding exercise, it's time to check out drugs that lower insulin resistance, most notably metformin.
𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐧
If oral drugs don't work, it's time for insulin. Today's ultra-thin insulin needles don't hurt—really. Unlike every other drug prescribed for diabetes, when used properly, insulin always works.
Now get out there and get NORMAL!

Why choose Diabetes Management Resource Center (DMRC)?
We are a diabetes center that was built from a patient-perspective. The establishment of the center and the pharmacy was to fill the gap that the diabetes patients faced. We noticed that the public is not well informed about what diabetes is and how to manage it. Their care primarily came from the healthcare team, which led to poor diabetes management. Therefore, we sought to involve those living with diabetes by creating various platforms that will educate and engage them. DMRC shares information freely on all its social sites and our website.
Additionally, we came with a diabetes support group, a Whatsapp group where the members benefit from our resources, discussions, and advice from our diabetes doctor. When members share experiences on the disease and tackle different scenarios, it is a deep relief, especially to the newly diagnosed. Those with recent diagnosis get to understand and have faith that they can control diabetes. We laugh; we learn and keep motivating each other in these groups. The sharing part helps eliminate stress and depression. Our information resources revolve around diabetes management i.e., lifestyle changes, weight loss, exercising, diabetes-related complications, weight management, diet, and many more.
We also noticed that another challenge facing people with diabetes was access to affordable drugs and services. Therefore, we came up with a DMRC pharmacy with a laboratory where we sell a variety of diabetes medicine, do related tests, and free sugar and pressure screening. Our drug store is one of its own because it also has an online pharmacy where patients can order and get their drugs delivered at their doorstep. The online platform has been helpful, especially with this COVID 19 pandemic, because our community will get prompt delivery of medications at their home without worrying about their safety. DMRC also has an online medical clinic where we offer online counseling services at affordable costs. Do you want to talk to a nutritionist from the comfort of your home? She is just a call away! We have friendly zoom consultations services where you will be advised on your diet for only 600/=. The services last for 30 minutes, so you have all the time to exhaust all your problems.
At our pharmacy, you will find a wide range of drugs, kits, and equipment that promote effective diabetes management. We have medications such as neurocare plus, astaxin, almax, cartel, potassium nitrate, why protein, those that treat acne, and many more. For the equipment and kits, we sell affordable digital thermometers, glucometers such as Accucheck, and even HIV self-test kits. Do you need kits/drugs at home? We got you, telephone counseling? We got you. And if you need to know more and more about diabetes, DMRC still got your back. We also believe that our information benefits those without diabetes because they will learn about the lifestyle changes they will make to prevent diabetes. If we have been resourceful, invite your family and friends and let’s all learn and stay healthy
