The Dongo Kundu Bypass is part of the Mombasa Port Area Road Development project road in Mombasa and Kwale Counties. It starts at the Mwache Interchange and ends at Dongo Kundu at a place called Mwangala on the South Mainland.

The Bypass comprises of three bridges: Mwache Bridge, Tsunza Viaduct and Mteza Bridge. The Mwache Bridge, which spans 660m in length with a composition of 21 spans (comprising three 40m spans and 18 30m spans), is 99% complete. Surface concrete works at the bridge has been finalized. The Tsunza viaduct is 690m long with 46 spans with each span stretching 15m. It is 99.3% complete.Lastly, the Mteza Bridge is 1.44km long with 47spans 3 of which are 40m and 44 of them are 30m spans. It is 95% complete.

The Dongo Kundu Bypass Project has been designed to provide road connectivity to the South Coast including the Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone and spur socio-economic development. The road will also provide connection to/from Moi International Airport and SGR Miritini terminus, hence improving tourism and hospitability in the South Coast. It will also open up the Tsunza area and Kinango Sub-County to motorized traffic.
