DID YOU KNOW ?!

CONSENT : Is permission for something to happen or agreement to do something .

S*X CONSENT : Is an agreement to participate in or s*xual activity . Both people must agree to s*x - every single time - for it to be consensual . Without consent ,s*xual activity ( including oral s*x, ge***al touching, vaginal or oral pe*******on ) is s*xual ASSAULT OR R**E.

"NO" does not mean ' convince me'
Silent is Consent .

Consent isn't is that complicated
1. Ask
2. Really listen
3. Make space for "NO"
4. 'YES' can change to 'NO' anytime .

Mental health is an element that is over looked, yet greatly impacts adherence to ART. We need to address the anxieties and fear .

With proper adherence, ART can reduce HIV to such low levels that the virus can no longer be detected in normal blood tests . This is called having an 'Undetectable' viral load.

Our Peer Navigators are not only here to listen to our clients concerns and sharing experiences but also provide reliable and relevant information to help our clients overcome barriers that may prevent , engagement , retention or re-engagement in treatment.

Offering strategies for incorporating medication and diet changes into our clients daily routine. Serving as a ' Voice of experience' by proactively addressing and discussing shared medical issues by modelling health behaviors , facilitating support and education groups like HIV basics on how and when to disclose.

Unmet mental health care needs are higher among us Trans S*x Workers than general population. Some of the most common barriers are fear of stigmatization, lack of awareness of mental health services, lack of mental health education , scarcity of financial support and accessibility.

And that's why we at Pwani Trans have come up with an initiative to engage Trans s*x workers who are in need of mental/psychosocial support through both individual and group sessions .

Don't be reluctant to admit you need treatment, don't let stigma create self - doubt and shame , don't isolate yourself , let's all SPEAK OUT against STIGMA โœŠ๐Ÿพ

17/01/2022

A right to health requires a system of health protection that gives everyone an equal opportunity to enjoy the highest attainable level of health services . Trans s*x workers have the entitlement to this rights as everyone else yet they experience significant health inequalities.

Trans s*x workers living with HIV face double stigma because of the intersectionality of being seen as 'Unclean' a danger to public health , unable to take care of themselves or make good life decisions this will ultimately affect their access to treatment and adherence.

We should consider meaningful involvement of Trans s*x workers at all stages of development, including planning , implementation , monitoring and evaluation of health services to cater for Trans s*x workers needs .

Today is International Day to End Violence Against S*x Workers. The day calls attention to hate crimes committed against s*x workers worldwide, as well as the need to remove the social stigma and discrimination that have contributed to violence against s*x workers.

On this day, we come together to offer each other support, share information and most importantly to remember friends we have tragically lost to violence.

We remember all those lost to su***de, overdoses, partner violence, trauma, survival & migration ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ

HOW CORONAVIRUS CAN AFFECT OUR LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY?!

Even after getting vaccinated , keep taking precautions to protect yourself, family and friends.

The COVID- 19 vaccine is highly effective, but a small percentage of people will still get ill for COVID-19 after vaccination. You could also pass the virus onto others who are not vaccinated .

Everyone should continue to distance, wear a mask , clean hands frequently, cover a cough or sneeze and avoid poorly ventilated areas .

Most of the time, STIs have no symptoms. Testing is the only way to know for sure if you have an STI. So if youโ€™ve had any kind of s*xual contact that can spread STIs โ€” like vaginal, a**l, or oral s*x โ€” talk with our clinical team about getting tested.

If youโ€™ve had s*xual contact with another person and notice any signs of an STI, talk to our Clinician about getting tested. STI symptoms can come and go over time, but that doesnโ€™t mean the STI is gone. Itโ€™s common for STI symptoms to be so mild that they donโ€™t bother you, but you should still see our clinical team if you notice anything that feels off.

The idea of getting tested may seem scary, but try to chill out. Most common STIs can be easily cured with medicine. And STIs that canโ€™t be cured often have treatments to help you with symptoms and to lower your chances of giving the STI to anyone else. So the sooner you know you have an STI, the faster you can start taking care of yourself and your partner(s).

Many of us have heard of ( Human papillomavirus) relation to but many may not be aware that it can cause : Head and neck , pe**le , a**l ,vulvar and vaginal cancers .

Cervical cancer is preventable!
You can be protected against cervical cancer by getting HPV vaccine .

HPV screening can be used for early detection of cervical cancer , it is advisable to get regular screenings.

NOTE: HPV is mainly transmitted through s*xual contact and most people are infected with HPV shortly after the onset of s*xual activity. Cervical cancer is caused by s*xually acquired infection .

Positive HPV test.

A positive test result means that you have a type of high-risk HPV that's linked to cervical cancer. It doesn't mean that you have cervical cancer now, but it's a warning sign that cervical cancer could develop in the future.

Learn more about your s*xual health by visiting our DIC located at bombolulu estate opposite meditrust hospital.
