It is a rainwater catchment area developed from a rock outcrop to catch and concentrate runoff into a storage structure for later use. Stone gutters are made to collect the runoff from the rock catchment area, and direct the rainwater into a storage structure.
Harvesting water from rock outcrops increase water supply for people, livestock and drinking water. When water is used for irrigation purposes, the agricultural production is increased due to the increased water availability.lets support swecf in fighting climate change, water scarcity by building many water structures πŸ’¦πŸ’¦πŸŒ±πŸ‡°πŸ‡ͺ

Building a sand dam, a structure for harvesting water from seasonal rivers. The barrier, typically made of concrete, impedes water flow and coarse grains of sand settle behind it, creating an artificial aquifer that fills up during rainy seasons.

Seasonal rivers flow a few times a year here, and with little piped water and few reliable alternatives, many people here depend on them for water. Building sand dams on these seasonal rivers, where people can scoop the sand to fetch the water or use pumps, helps minimize water loss through evaporation and recharges groundwater. This is increasingly important as human-caused climate change is leading to prolonged seasons of drought, let's support local communities in fighting away water scarcity, climate change by building Water projects( Sand Dams Projects to the local communities living in semi arids lands. )

Sand dams projects when they harvest water ,minimize water loss through evaporation because they store water within sand, and that helps with water supply during dry seasons.
Regreen the surrounding vegetation and recharge groundwater, raising the water table.

Trees and woods play a vital role in reducing flooding by slowing down the flow of rainwater, absorbing rainwater and reducing erosion. Flooding is a devastating reality for many communities. Trees can help to reduce flooding by slowing down the flow of rainwater, absorbing rainwater, and reducing erosion.
Let's plant trees at this time we are having heavy rains .they grow fast and will help us in future.

Trees give off oxygen that we need to breathe. Trees reduce the amount of storm water runoff, which reduces erosion and pollution in our waterways and may reduce the effects of flooding. Many species of wildlife depend on trees for habitat. Trees provide food, protection, and homes for many birds and mammals.
Everyone should know the above story for trees ,plant more and protect all trees 🌳

Water is essential to our daily lives. Whenever water is used, there is a potential for conservation both inside and outside of your home or business. Fresh water is a limited resource, making water conservation an important factor for the environment.

With population growth, expansion of industry, increasing levels of development activity, and the potential for climate change impacts there is increasing pressure placed on the province’s water resources. Whether you are on a municipal or a private domestic water supply, water conservation is a wise practice.

Conserving water saves energy. Using less water keeps more in our ecosystems and helps to keep wetland habitats topped up for animals like otters, water voles, herons and fish.

This is what SWECF and our partners have been training and continuing training deeply to the local communities to save trees.

Trees contribute to their environment by providing oxygen, improving air quality, climate amelioration, conserving water, preserving soil, and supporting wildlife. During the process of photosynthesis, trees take in carbon dioxide and produce the oxygen we breathe.
This is what SWECF and our partners have been training and continuing training deeply to the local communities to save trees.

Many arid places in Kenya are experiencing drought, extreme weather conditions and natural catastrophes due to scarcity of vegetation cover. This has been occasioned by the little or no rainfall experienced in these areas. One of the ways of improving these areas could be through tree planting. Trees help improve air circulation, prevent global warming, reduce soil erosion and boost soil fertility. They also act as significant water catchment areas since they hold more moisture, thus attracting rainfall

SWECF Kenya - Our Story

Soil,Water & Environmental Conservation foundation (SWECF KENYA) is a Non-Governmental Organisation located in Mwingi, Kenya whose mission is to cooperate with other development partners and local communities, particularly the rural poor communities of northern and eastern Kenya, in supporting local initiatives. These initiatives are predominantly aimed at water resource development and environmental conservation schemes. SWECF aims at reducing poverty and promoting sustainable development through use of local resources and community engagement. SWECF also seeks to empower people to develop the capacity and means of accessing basic social services in the efforts to contribute to their own development, with an understanding that it is through participation and empowerment of the people that sustainable development can be achieved. SWECF believes that properly mandated, empowered and informed marginalised communities, in particular the women and youth, can contribute to societal decisions.

SWECF was established in 2018 by the founder Victor Mutuku Mutunga operating mostly within Northern & Eastern (arid & semi arid) Kenya, and began by establishing environmental conservation and water development programs in Mwingi, Kitui county and northern regions of Kenya in collaboration with the local communities and other partners in respective villages. We support local community initiatives and empower them in their efforts to fight poverty and access basic services. This is done through awareness raising, animation, focus groups, leadership and training in management skills, assisting disadvantaged individuals and groups to gain greater control over local resources and decision making. This helps to provide them with the ability and right to define collective goals and participate in making decisions on matters that affect their daily lives.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to contribute to the long term sustainable development of rural communities across Northern and Eastern Kenya. Our vision aims at reducing poverty and water scarcity alongside developing environmental conservation initiatives. SWECF pursues this by; Actively entering into partnership with women groups, youth groups and self help groups involved in community development. It focuses on projects at community level addressing food security, water, environmental management and Christianity.
