Last Saturday, we were back at .queen for the girls' monthly therapy sessions.
queen provides a safe and supportive environment for teen girls who have experienced sexual violence, domestic violence and trauma.

As always, we left the safehouse inspired by the strength and resilience of the young girls and their babies.

It was also a reminder of the important work that our organization does and the need for continued support for safe spaces like this. Thank you to the staff and volunteers at the safehouse for all that you do!

Special thanks to
who through their able therapists provide this essential service on behalf of our organization.

Our last post of November is one of Gratitude.

That after many months of dreaming, planning and praying, Fariji Foundation was able to begin doing 'The Work'.

On 11th of November we kicked off our 'Mental Health Support' program where 12 young girls had one-on-one sessions with our able therapists from Clarity Counseling Centre.

They're survivors of different traumatic events and we're so happy to be able to help them in their healing journey in this capacity.

Fariji shall walk with them for as long as needed and we're able to.

This is just the first of many therapy sessions for them and the many other survivors that we will bring on board with time.

We're excited for the journey ahead and scared in equal measure because it's not lost on us on how challenging it's going to be. Yet we remain hopeful.

Fariji Foundation was honored to visit .queen Safe House last Friday, 11.11.2022, where we kicked off our mental health support program.

Our able psychologists met with each of the girls for individual assessment to chart the way forward.

We hope that this is the beginning of something beautiful in their lives.

It was such a wonderful time and a blessing to hang out with the girls and some of their babies.

Grateful for meaningful and impactful partnerships!

One of the first things my therapist asked me to do was to write down what my core beliefs were.

Such a simple task ended being quite difficult to do. And do you know what the outcome was?
My core beliefs were quite negative.

Imagine that, functioning for over 20 years from a place of negativity due to childhood trauma.

Over the years, I have purposed to turn my core beliefs in to positive things. Some days I even have to convince myself because healing is a journey, and it is not linear.

This has helped see life in a different light, slowly rediscover the beautiful brilliant child in me that had so much promise before trauma consumed every living part of me while encouraging the brilliant adult in me to embrace everything that she is supposed to be.

What lie has trauma made you believe and are you willing to change the narrative and take your power back?

What a burden to carry your whole life, thinking like this. It's quite delibitating, crippling and suffocating.

Healing is knowing when to take responsibility for our actions and also knowing that sometimes things just happen and it's not always our fault.

Free yourself from the shackles of guilt.

Being kind and gentle with oneself is part of healing.
Speak to yourself as you would to someone else who has gone through what you have.
You need to be your biggest advocate/ cheerleader in this journey.

Knowing the type of Anxiety one suffers from is a step closer in getting the right help one needs.

Things to note:
- GAD is the most common anxiety disorder, and people with the disorder are not always able to identify the cause of their anxiety.
- Panic disorders usually occur after frightening experiences or prolonged stress but may also occur without a trigger.
- Phobias are not like other anxiety disorders, as they relate to a specific cause.
- Children with Selective Mutism may have excellent verbal communication skills around familiar people. It may be an extreme form of social phobia.

Many mistakes were made, little did we know we were just trying to cope but lacked the tools/ didn't know how.
Now that we know better, we do better.
Here's to being kind to ourselves 🥂. All the best to everyone on their journey 🧡.
