In the lead-up to this Sunday 31st July, we will be highlighting the diverse roles of some of the rangers of Ol Pejeta.

Meet Stephen Ngoya, Stephen is a Night Patroller working with our Wildlife department.

Stephen's job involves responding to any electric shorts reported along our fencelines. Sometimes these shorts are caused by wildlife that has got into one of the surrounding communities or even humans trying to get into the conservancy.

Stephen's job is not easy and often has him working not only at night, but also patrolling some areas which cannot be reached by vehicle, meaning he often has to reach these locations on foot.

"There is this one time I will never forget. As I was following the fence, I met thirteen lions with an eland kill. That is the worst scare I have ever got on foot! The lions cornered me against the fence and I had to get through it - luckily we had switched off the electricity along that line.”

Rangers like Stephen risk their lives daily to protect and conserve our wildlife - donate today in support of our rangers and World Ranger Day.
