Yesterday together with my mediation team from Bungoma, we paid a courtesy call to the Mediation Registry at Bungoma law Courts to asses the performance of our mediators, Identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to enhance operational efficiency.
We learnt that the total matters reffered to Mediation this year are 432 with a settlement rate is at 59.4%, with family/miscellaneous matters being more successful with a success rate of 100%, by Criminal matters at 71.14%, then the children and maintenance matters at a success rate of 68.4%.
The Bungoma station is also handling matters from kimilili and sirisia and 205 matters out of 476 have been successfully settled while 409 matters have been successfully concluded at Bungoma Mediation Station.

As an institution that prides itself in walking the talk and holding our trainees' hands on the mediation journey post training, yesterday we broke bread with 32 professional mediators from Meru, Tharaka Nithi and Embu counties who are among 54 mediators scheduled for Court Annexed Mediation interviews in Meru from next week. We discussed how to effectively prepare for the interviews among other key topics. We wish them well in their upcoming interviews and in playing a major role in reducing the backlog of cases within Our Judiciary.
Earlier today, we partnered with Karatina Law Courts for a sensitization on succession and ELC matters at Karatina Law Courts whereby the Judicial officers highlighted the importance of ethics, professionalism, dealing with crafty parties, and staying updated on recent legal amendments in the two areas of the sensitization.

They started off the day by paying a courtesy call to the Mediation Secretariat in Nairobi where they gained valuable insights into the screening process for mediation cases, learned about the challenges faced by the secretariat, and witnessed the progress being made to streamline the practice for mediators.
Our guests also had the opportunity to observe court sessions, delving into court etiquette and processes to enhance their understanding of the legal landscape. Following this enriching experience, they took the next step in their journey by submitting their accreditation applications to the Mediation Accreditation Committee.
