I have decided to follow Governor Mandago advice. Nisiweke siasa kwa roho niweke kwa lungs.

I remember when we were growing up with Hawa Abdul, Alibaba Abdul, Mugo Wa Kanyiri, Abdi Mureithi Abdul our elder sister Fatuma Nyerere ,Lucy Kanyi, Kihiko Wa Njoro River and my late brother George Kanyiri would ensure that they took time to assist us cross the dams during the rainy season. Abdi would even teach us how to swim kwa dam ya Kihingo. Life was fun. The weather was very predictable and farmers would bask in the glory of abundance.

The weather pattern in my homeland is right now unpredictable. Long rains are coming in either June or July. December was maize harvesting time when we would prepare communal groups expecting bumper harvest. As we speak, rains have failed in Kitale. This is an upfront to food security.

The many seasonal rivers with clean water where we would hunt for “njururi” that mystic insect that we believed that if it bite our small nondescript ni***es they would appear very big are no more. Uncontrolled deforestation and poor government policies led to excision of Mau forest that led to the mess that we are facing today.

With Jubilee government increasing the cost of LPG from 1.5 to 20% is insensitive and a betrayal to all conservation efforts. Charcoal burning will diminish all the remaining forest cover.
