We offer our warmest congratulations to our colleague Amina Hassan Ahmed the CEM Roads, Public Works and Housing, Mandera County.

The International Peace Day celebrations was today observed in Mandera. The county department of cohesion led other stakeholders, including the national government, CSOs and corporate institution such as Rufmo Consulting in marking the auspicious occasion. The theme of this year’s event was ‘End Racism. Build Peace’. The event commenced with a procession flagged off by the County Commissioner, Mr Onesmus Kyatha at his office. This was followed by a colourful ceremony held at Granada hotel where different stakeholders attended. The Mandera County Peace Actors Forum (MCPAF) recognized some individuals and organizations for their efforts in building peace across the county. Among those awarded was Mohamed Dahir (Murshid), Rufmo’s director of operations for his tireless efforts in contributing to peace in the county. It is important to note that Rufmo was the only corporate instiution that co-sponsored the event along with other actors. A peace tournament between Mandera and Belet Hawa youth was held this afternoon at Geneva stadium, Mandera.

Rufmo CEO, Mr Rufaa Ahmed attended a meeting of the Mandera Peace Actors Forum today held at the Regional Peace Center, Mandera. The forum brings together peace actors drawn from both county and national governments, CSOs, NGOs and other professionals in the county. In his remarks, the CEO commended the work of the forum, which he is a member and emphasized Rufmo’s continued support to peace building and peace research. The meeting attended by various representatives discussed preparations for the International Peace Day to be observed on 21st September. Rufmo pledged to contribute to the cost of hosting the event as a corporate entity committed to the cause of peace. The forum members promised to support Rufmo in carrying out its ongoing Social Network Analysis (SNA) research.

Loyalty is a two-way street. If you want your employees to be loyal to you, then you need to treat them like people with lives, aspirations, and hobbies outside of the office. On the other hand, some employees do view any job as a means to the end of having money to live and do things outside of the office that enrich their lives.

Congratulations Amina Hassan Ahmed for the Peace Award

We are proud to report that our senior consultant and gender advisor, Amina Hassan is the recipient of the International College of Peace Studies Peace Award 2021 for her outstanding effort in peace making.

Amina is a senior consultant with over 22 years experience managing consulting initiatives on peacebuilding, gender-based violence and education throughout Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia. She has a cumulative experience of 30 years in programmes development and teaching in primary schools and Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres. Amina completed Primary Teachers Certificate (PTC) in 1987 and started teaching till 1992 when she was promoted to Teacher Advisory Centre (TAC) Tutor. In 1991, she was again promoted to an ECD trainer and moved to different grades subsequently.

Born in Mandera County, some 54 years ago, the direct accounts of inter-communal violence inspired Amina to form the first peace organisation in Mandera. She started Mandera Women for Peace and Development (WFPD) in the year 2000 after attending a regional women’s workshop in peacebuilding and conflict management held in Wajir in 1998, and became its coordinator. In 2010, WFPD was registered as an NGO known as Horn of Africa Women Empowerment Network (HAWENKA) and she is to date serving as its CEO. In 2005, Amina’s peacebuilding efforts earned her Head of State Commendation (HSC) awarded by the President of the Republic of Kenya.

Amina manages complex problems and provides integrated solutions informed by thorough analysis and contextual understanding. She has conducted in-depth interviews, trained data collectors and analysed information using wide-range of methods. She was the lead consultant for the review of IGAD’s Conflict Early Warning Mechanism (CEWARN) Strategy 2012-2019 and the lead researcher for the Conflict Analysis of the Mandera Triangle (cross-border areas of Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia) for FAO and IGAD.

Amina is a pioneer in trauma healing and social reconciliation. After participating in the International Regional cause organized by Coalition for Peace in Africa (COPA) in the year 2002, from where she gained knowledge to successfully modify a traditional ceremony, Abay Abay, in the Somali context as a tool of trauma healing and reconciliation for the women from hostile communities. Amina holds BA in Development Studies and has MA from the Centre for Justice and Peacebuilding, Eastern Mennonite University, USA.

Mohamed Dahir Mohammednoor, Director of Operations

Mohamed Dahir aka Murshid is a founding director of Rufmo and is the man at the helm of the company’s operations. He oversees the operational aspects of the company strategy and is responsible for the flow of operations information to the CEO and the board. Mohamed brings expertise in organizational management and Participatory Action Research. He has over 10 years’ experience working with local and International organizations such as Interpeace and National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) in areas of peace and conflict resolution. He is the lead researcher/author of a landmark study carried out by NCIC and Interpeace entitled ‘Voices of the People: Challenges to Peace in Mandera County’ https://www.interpeace.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/2017-ECA-Kenia-Mandera-County-Note.pdf. He spent years supporting dialogue initiatives aimed at addressing inter-communal conflicts in North-Eastern Kenya and enormously contributed to the recently ratified Mandera Customary Law Resolution. Mohamed, a father of four, has passion for writing, reading and making adventurous travels. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Armed Conflict from the University of Nairobi and is pursuing MA in Peace and Conflict Studies at Coventry University, UK.

Abdikarim Hassan Mohamed, Company Secretary

Abdikarim is a lawyer with over 8 years of experience advising governments, firms, and intergovernmental organizations. Over the last few years, he has actively worked in peace, security, and legal issues. In recent years, most of his professional energy has been concentrated on designing and carrying research and assessment on a wide field area. Abdikarim has worked on the protection sector, shaping and implementing projects for vulnerable members for the community at Elman Peace Center before starting to work with the justice institutions for legal protection. Abdikarim has an LL.M degree in Rule of Law for Development from Loyola University Chicago, where he specifically focused on in-depth research in carrying research and designing programs and projects across various fields.

There will always be people who do not care about your Costs, Time, Effort, they rather let other people cheat them, allowing others to earn, then supporting someone they know. Cause in their heart, they will always be thinking, 'How much did he earn from me?' instead of "How much did he SAVE/MAKE for me?"

This is a classic example of a poor person's mentality! Jack Ma on Sales: 'When doing Sales, the first people who will trust you will be Strangers, Friends will be shielding against you, fair-weather friends will distance from you.

Family will look down upon you.' The day you finally succeed, paying the bill for every get-together dinner, entertainment, you will realise: Everyone else is present except the Stranger.

Rufmo peace practitioners participated in an engaging research event organized by a major development partner. A number of in-depth research pieces were presented, exploring pressing governance, reconciliation and democratization issues affecting Somalia. The key papers presented include:
*Land conflict -comprehensive literature review and gap analysis.
*Options for district council political and economic sustainability.
*Risks, challenges and opportunities for sub-national democratization.
The meeting was attended by participants drawn from policy, donor, diplomatic and practitioner communities.

It was exciting to engage in an open discourse with residents of Mogadishu and listen to their aspirations for peace.

“The Somali leaders need to prioritize peace and social reconciliation by directly engaging with their constituents. Peace-building isn’t like building roads, it requires direct interaction with those shattered by conflict and insecurity.”
