Throughout the years we have seen reports, and heard from you the problems you face when you have had to interact with the Health Care System, not just in the United States, but also in other countries namely the United Kingdom. The article with the title in the headline was published by National Public Radio and it exposed a shocking fact: the life expectancy for people with Sickle Cell Anemia in the United States has actually gone down between 1994 and 2005. The article goes on to say that the decline in life expectancy (or increase in mortality) "may reflect a lack of access to high-quality care for adults with SCD." This is unacceptable.

Our Hope is that with the daily use of Dioscovite®, at the recommended dosage, your need for the health care system for sickle cell crisis/pain will either be cut back dramatically if not completely eliminated! Make good nutrition a family affair so your child doesn't feel punished when they're drinking milk and everyone else has a soft drink.
Eat from a rainbow of fruits and vegetables paired with grains, proteins (such as eggs, fish, chicken, lean meat, beans or tofu) and nuts.
Get plenty of calcium-rich foods such as low-fat or fat-free milk, yogurt, and cheese, leafy green vegetables and calcium-fortified foods such as soymilk, orange juice and tofu.
Provide healthy, high-calorie foods including dried fruit, nuts and nut butters, or smoothies if your child doesn't have much of an appetite.
Discuss vitamin D testing and supplementation with your healthcare provider. While sun exposure, eggs, fortified milk and yogurt provide vitamin D, it often is difficult to replenish vitamin D with food alone.
Encourage plenty of water to prevent constipation.

A dietary factor was responsible.

Nutritional THIOCYANATE is the protective factor in Africa.
Most African staple foods contain a nutrient known as thiocyanate in abundance.This nutrient is not common in American foods.
Bashai et al (1982) noted that west Africans are protected from sickle cell anemia symptoms by yams because yams are rich in thiocyanate, an anti-sickling factor.
An additional study by Natural Health Research Institute proved that thiocyanate was protecting Africans from severe sickle cell anemia symptoms.
This solved the mystery of sickle cell anemia rarity in Africa.
