Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen) is the leading electric power generator in East Africa. KenGen was incorporated in 1954 under the Kenyan Companies Act as Kenya Power Company (KPC) with the mandate to generate electricity through the development, management, and operation of power plants.

In 1996, the Government of Kenya embarked on restructuring the energy sector to achieve efficient usage of resources earmarked for the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity.

KenGen Kenya reported a 48% increase in profit after tax of Ksh. 5.02 billion for the year ended June 2023, up from Ksh. 3.4 billion in the previous year.

This performance is attributed to the operational efficiency of our geothermal fleet and the newly commissioned Olkaria I Additional Unit 6 geothermal power plant, in July 2022.

This growth is attributed to a 24% increase in geothermal generation and an overall increase in electricity unit sales from 7,918GWh in 2022 to 8,027GWh. ^EM
