Today le'me discuss with you briefly on BEEF production.
Beef cattle production is certainly a daunting undertaking, especially for beginners. To some extent this might the reason why many farmers opt for dairy farming, which they consider easy as they can readily learn from other farmers.

But just as in dairy, beef cattle production requires good knowledge and expertise. Below are five things to consider before starting.

๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ชType of operation
There are two main types of beef production enterprises to engage in. First is the production of weaner calves for sale and second, fattening young stock for slaughter.

The choice depends on the resources at your disposal such as land size and amount of financial capital as well as proximity to the market.

๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ชBreeding practices
A beef farmer can keep either improved local cattle breed or purebred beef cattle of exotic lineage. It is prudent to start with the improved animals and breed up through high-quality bulls.

๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ชLocal beef animals take less capital, are readily available, mistakes done are less costly, need less experience and training.

As you breed upwards, you gain knowledge and experience on how to better handle your higher potential stock at a time when they require intense management skills.

๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ชWhen grading up, do not be afraid to invest in quality bulls with data on heritable traits of economic importance such as birth weights or weaning weight.

Other important considerations regarding breeds are ease of calving, heat and humidity tolerance, market acceptance, growth rate and carcass quality.

๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ชLocal breeds to consider are the Boran and Sahiwal, which are well-adapted to most areas, especially the arid and semi-arid regions where beef farming is the main economic activity.
Producers will need to decide between purebred and crossbred cattle. It's important to note that crossbred cattle have โ€œhybrid vigourโ€, meaning that they usually perform better than purebred.

Below are the critical things you need to do In the first 24Hours after a Calf ๐Ÿ„ Is born.

A calf which is not provided with adequate care in the first 24 hours, may succumb to death, prone to diseases or will always remain weak and an under-performer, even though it has good genetic potential and is provided a good environment.

1. Clean nostrils and mouth which helps the calf breathe better and help prevent future breathing problems.

2. Allow the mother to lick the calf clean which promotes circulation within the calfโ€™s body and prepares the calf to stand up and walk.

3. Cut the navel cord at a distance of around 2 inches from the base with a clean instrument.

4. Dip the navel (a simple smearing will not serve the purpose) in 3.5% or higher tincture of iodine solution ensuring a minimum contact time of at least 30 seconds.

5. Tie the exposed end of the cord with a clean thread to close the opening.
6. Repeat navel dipping after 12 hours. A poorly maintained navel is the gateway to serious infections.

7. A new born calf should be given 2L of colostrum within the first 2 hours of birth and 1-2L (based on size) within 12hrs of birth.

A calf must receive adequate colostrum to protect it from diseases for the first 3months of its life. Colostrum is the calfโ€™s โ€œpassport to lifeโ€.

8. Hand-feeding new-born calves is therefore recommended so that the farmer is sure about the amount of colostrum an individual calf receives.

9. De-worming should be done within 10-14 days of age subsequently on a monthly basis up to the 6th month.

10. When the animal is 6 months old, contact the veterinarian for vaccination.

Let's do Wild today.
a vet doctor introducing to you courtship in Elephants. Here we go ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

Did you know?

โ€ข During courtship, a male and a female elephant will rub their bodies on each other and even wrap trunks. The females tend to run away from the males and he will have to pursue her. This game of cat and mouse can continue for a long time before actual mating occurs.

โ€ข Males go through periods of โ€œmusth,โ€ where hormonal surges create behavior changes. The periods of musth are necessary for natural herd dynamics and successful breeding.

โ€ข Male elephants fan their ears more when they are ready to mate than at other times. This allows them to get their scent out there at a wider distance to attract potential mates.

โ€ข The females are ready to breed when they are about 14 years of age.

WHY DOGS GET STUCK DURING COPULATION.
๐Ÿ•๐Ÿฆฎ๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ•

For public awareness

why do dogs get stuck?
As a zoologist, we all are familiar with this scene. Many of us don't have much fun with animal s*x. When someone find street dogs in this situation, they kick them.
Some again hit them with bamboo or sticks, overly enthusiastic.

Let's understand a little bit. We mean that animals and "s*x" are just as basic as humans. First of all, the joke about the system in which you were born is not very appropriate.

So why are they stuck?

Dog s*x is mainly done in two or three steps, the second of which is the 'stuck' step. When a male dog emits semen, the 'bulbas glandis' of his ge****ls become quite stiff and at the same time the muscles of the va**na of a female dog become constricted.

As a result, the male dog cannot remove its ge****ls from the female dog's ge****ls until both muscles are relaxed. During this time, some fluid is secreted from the male dog's ge****ls, which causes his s***m to flow more quickly.

The duration can be 5 to 45 minutes.

So what happens when you force them to run or hit their ge****ls with something?

Yes, sometimes the muscles relax quickly, but in most cases the muscles break and in some cases the female dog loses its s*xual ability. Sometimes there are more problems, including loss of kidney function in male dogs.

You have no right to harm them just as they are not harming you. It is a good thing that you are collecting love reactions with pictures of puppies on social media day and night, if you can at the same time do them some good.

And even if you don't do that, there is no problem, please don't do any harm to them.

a vet doctor has something important for us farmers.
Bovine Foetus Abnormal Presentation, Position and Posture:

Abnormal presentation, position and posture in a bovine birth.

When attending a dystocia, the first thing to determine before acting is the "3 P", Presentation, position and posture of the calf.

๐Ÿ’‰ Presentation signifies the relationship between the longitudinal axis of the fetus and the maternal birth canal.

These may be:
1. Longitudinal presentation, which can be anterior or posterior, depending on which fetal extremity is entering the pelvis;
2. Transverse presentation; ventral or dorsal, according to whether the dorsal or ventral aspect of the trunk is presented; and
3. Vertical presentation; ventral or dorsal. Vertical presentations are very rare, and only the obliquely vertical โ€˜dog-sittingโ€™ presentation in the horse needs to be considered in detail.

๐ŸคฉPosition indicates the surface of the maternal birth canal to which the fetal vertebral column is applied.
It can be dorsal, ventral, and left or right lateral.

๐ŸคฉPosture refers to the disposition of the movable appendages of the fetus and involves flexion or extension of the neck or limb joints, for example, lateral flexion of the neck or hock flexion posture.

inseminating heifers when they first exhibit their estrus cycle is severely wrong! It can affect its health and productivity.
Calves mature s*xually at 8 months but physically at 14 months.
If insemination happens at a young age it can affect the complete growth of the cow.
heiferโ€™s normally produce up to 40 kilos of milk but un early inseminated heifer only produces 30 kilos of milk.

To insure a strong fertile breed there are basic rules that must be followed for the heiferโ€™s diet, for it has a main effect on the timing of when a heifer starts its estrus cycle which often starts when the heiferโ€™s weight reaches 200-250kg
The start of the heiferโ€™s estrus cycle doesnโ€™t mean it can start breeding! because its body remains weak, which would affect its productivity in the future
Studies show that the best breeding time is when a heifer reaches 300-350kg, at 15-17 months old

From the above it is clear to us that a nutrition diet is not about reaching a Height Weight and a bigger size, because that would cause the fat to increase around the ovaries which could lead to the heifer having fertilization difficulties, thatโ€™s why a balanced nutrition diet is very important.

My good farmers.... today let's look at L*D
Lumpy skin disease

Lumpy skin disease (L*D) is an acute virus disease of cattle characterised by eruption of variably sized skin nodules, oedema of the limbs and swelling of the superficial lymph nodes.

1.ETIOLOGY
Lumpy skin disease (L*D) is caused by lumpy skin disease virus (L*DV), a virus from the family
Poxviridae, genus Capripoxvirus. Sheeppox virus and Goatpox virus are the two other virus species in this
genus.

2.CLINICAL SIGNS
โ—‹ Fever
โ—‹ Watery eyes,
โ—‹ increased nasal secretions,
โ—‹ enlarged superficial lymph nodes
โ—‹ loss of appetite,
โ—‹ reduced milk production,
โ—‹ depression and reluctance to move.
โ—‹ This is followed by the eruption of skin nodules that may cover the whole body. They can be found on any part of the body but are most numerous on the head and neck, perineum, genitalia and udder, and the limbs.

3.TRANSMISION
The principal means of transmission is believed to be by arthropod vector.
Transmission by direct contact with infected animals can occur at a low level but this is not considered a major method of spread. Most infection is thought to be the result of insect transmission. Many different types of biting insects are thought to be involved. Transmission is thought to be mechanical rather than biological.

4.POST MOTERM FINDINGS
Nodules are found in the subcutaneous tissues, muscle fascia and muscles. They are grey-pink with necrotic cores. Nodules may also be found through the nasopharynx, trachea, bronchi, lungs, rumen, abomasum, renal cortex, testicles and uterus.
5.DIAGNOSIS
โ—‹ On basis of sign and symptoms
โ—‹ Laboratory tests
Identification of agents through PCR and electron microscopy

6.TREATMENT
โ—‹ No specific antiviral drugs
โ—‹ Antibiotics to prevent secondary infections
โ—‹ dressing of wounds lesions
7. PREVENTION AND CONTROL.
โ—‹ Import restrictions and surveillance
โ—‹ restrictions of movement in infected animals
โ—‹ culling infected animals
โ—‹ vaccination

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,BLOAT
Bloat is simply the build up of gas in the rumen.
This gas is produced as part of the normal process of digestion, and is normally lost by belching (eructation).
Bloat occurs when this loss of gas is prevented.
There are two sorts of bloat:
The least common type is gassy bloat, which occurs when the gullet is obstructed (often by foreign objects such as potatoes) or when the animal canโ€™t burp (such as with milk fever or teta**s).
The second type of bloat is frothy bloat, which happens as the result of a stable foam developing on top of the rumen liquid, which blocks the release of the gas.
This is by far the most common form of bloat, and unlike gassy bloat, it is highly seasonal with peaks in the spring and autumn.
This is because the foam is formed by breakdown products from rapidly growing forages (particularly legumes such as clover and alfalfa).
These increase the viscosity (stickiness) of the rumen fluid and prevent the small bubbles of gas formed by rumen fermentation from coming together to form free gas that can be belched off
๐˜พ๐™ก๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™ž๐™˜๐™–๐™ก ๐™Ž๐™ž๐™œ๐™ฃ๐™จ
Distended left abdomen is the most obvious sign
Usually associated with pain, discomfort, and bellowing.
Death can occur within 15 minutes after the development of bloat.
Gaseous bloat is usually seen in one or two animals.
Frothy bloat can affect up to 25% of cases.
In some cases sudden death may be the first sign seen by the stockman, although in such cases it is likely that there will be other cattle with bloat that are still alive.
๐˜ฟ๐™„๐˜ผ๐™‚๐™‰๐™Š๐™Ž๐™„๐™Ž
History of what ruminants have fed on is key
Auscultation and Palpation
The use of a stomach tube help to distinguish between Gassy and Frothy Bloat. If is Gassy Bloat, the gas will escape through the tube.
However in Frothy Bloat, no gas will escape.
๐™๐™๐™€๐˜ผ๐™๐™ˆ๐™€๐™‰๐™
The passage of a stomach tube is the best treatment for a Gassy Bloat.
Should a stomach tube fail, a Trochar and Cannula can be used to punch the side.

Hello guys........
Get this from Be a vet doctor;;;;;;;;A dairy cow is like a maize mill or any other factory. If you want 20 kilos of maize flour, you should feed the mill with at least 20 kilos of maize grain. The same applies to a dairy cow; you should not expect a lot when you put in little in terms of care and feeding. Therefore, proper feeding is essential for high milk production.

Male lambs are castrated to prevent unwanted mating where male and female are reared together in one herd. In addition, castrated males are easier to handle and they produce better quality meat.
Castration can be done by using an elastrator ring, burdizzo or open castration using a knife.

the scrotal sack distal (away from the body of the youngone) to the elastrator ring. To minimize pain when using the rubber ring method of castration, they must be applied within three days of birth.
A strong rubber ring is placed around the top of the testicles thus cutting off blood supply. The testicles die off slowly.

This is an instrument used to cut off the blood supply to the testicles,
causing cell death of the testicular tissues resulting in degeneration of the testicles. The best time to apply the burdizzo is three to four weeks after birth when the s***matic cords can be felt.
The burdizzo is applied to each s***matic cord separately (as in the diagram below) in such a way that the blood supply to the testicles is damaged, while circulation to the scrotal sack remains intact. Gangrene can set in where blood circulation to the sc***um is lost. To achieve these objectives, the burdizzo is applied to the individual s***matic cords at opposite side of the sc***um, leaving a central area free for blood to aplying the burdizzo at different levels on opposite sc***um.

CATTLE CALF PNEUMONIA.
โœ“CALF PNEUMONIA is a major problem in dairy and beef herds. It is a multifactorial disease, and the most common post-mortem diagnosis in calves between one to five months of age.

โœ“INFECTIOUS AGENTS involved
ยฐMannheimia hemolytica ๐Ÿ”ธHaemophilus somnus
ยฐInfectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis (IBR)
ยฐbovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)
ยฐParainfluenza III Virus (PI3)
along with many other bacteria and mycoplasma species and viruses.

โœ“ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS include
}}} low environmental temperatures and high humidity and poor ventilation and also direct draughts onto calves themselves. The relationship between season and outbreaks may also be related to management practices including calving pattern and mixing of different ages of calves.

โœ“SYMPTOMS
>Dull and depressed
>High temperature
>Raised breathing due to lung damage
>Nasal discharge
>Coughing
>Reduced food intake

โœ“CHRONIC PNEUMONIA is more gradual in onset with no distinct ill phase and the cow may appear to still eat well but may have a slight nasal discharge, sometimes with an increased respiratory rate and cough.

Both acute and chronic forms of respiratory disease cause production losses as there is a reduction in live-weight gain and there may be deaths in the acute syndrome.

PREVENTION
It can be difficult to control pneumonia when calves are placed in communal pens. Improved husbandry, ventilation and good nursing care can all reduce risks of pneumonia, as well as ensuring that young animals receive appropriate amounts of colostrum within the first 24 hours of birth.
Colostrum: :
All calves must have one gallon of colostrum within four to six hours of birth to receive adequate immunity. Calves that are not given enough antibodies at birth are at increased risk for pneumonia and scours throughout the entire growing period.
