As you are preparing for intense job or scholarship applications note the following things that a a CV DOES NOT require.
1. Your high school and primary details if you have attended college/University
2. Marital status
3. Your date of birth.
4. Your religion.
5. Your full home address. The county and country are fine.
6. Your hobbies. Nobody is going to shortlist your CV because you like playing games.
7. Lastly, remove your ID number.
8. Remove your Social Media Links such as instagram, youtube etc if it is not related to your work. though be 100% sure the employer will search for your name online and see the kind of person you present yourself to be. Make sure your social media accounts are professional and present a good image of you.
9. Irrelevant work experience.
10. Remember to add skills such as mediation, facilitation, conflict analysis, event organizing. Irrelevant stuff in your CV makes it less valuable and might let you loose a good opportunity.

Most scholarship applications for programs starting August 2025 will start from August 2024 to 15th January 2025. A lot of preparation will be needed between now and the start of applications.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. If you do not know what you want in terms of the scholarship and/or the specific country you are interested in, take some time to figure it out ASAP.

2. Understand the scholarship criteria, and requirements, as well as its mission and goals.

3. Create a comprehensive CV highlighting your achievements, awards, honors, etc.
*Do not just tell but SHOW: focus on providing concrete examples and quantifiable achievements rather than just listing skills or qualities.
Eg. Instead of saying "excellent communication skills," you might write "Presented research findings at during class or conference presentation receiving positive feedback from peers and experts."

*Demonstrate impact and contribution.
E.g. Discuss any community service, clubs, organizations, or leadership that show your commitment to making a positive impact in your community or field of study.

4. Prepare a strong personal statement that showcases your strengths and experiences. Always have one or two people proof read it.

*Emphasize why you’re an excellent fit for the scholarship and how receiving the scholarship will help you reach your objectives.
*Make sure your statement is aligned with the mission and goals of the scholarship.
*Be authentic, passionate, and specific.
* Try to avoid generic statements.

5. Seek strong Letters of recommendation. (reach them out early)

*Choose recommenders who know you well and can speak to your abilities.
*Provide them with specific information about the scholarship and your achievements.

6. Tailor your application to each Scholarship.
* Customize your application for each scholarship opportunity.

7. Use AI tools to search for scholarships.

*Consider following the social media pages of institution, universities and pages that share scholarship information.

8. Apply for multiple scholarships until you succeed. (IMPORTANT)

* Never give up. Remember, we learn by taking action!
