July is Sarcoma Awareness Month, a time when advocacy groups, medical professionals, and sarcoma patients and survivors work to educate the public about this disease.
Some of the key goals of sarcoma awareness campaigns include:
- Informing people about the signs and symptoms of sarcoma
- Highlighting the need for more research funding and clinical trials
- Providing support and resources for sarcoma patients and their families
- Advocating for improved access to quality sarcoma care
By increasing general awareness, sarcoma advocates hope to lead to earlier diagnoses, better treatment options, and improved long-term survival rates for sarcoma patients.

We need to challenge the misconception that strength is solely physical and emphasizes that true strength encompasses emotional resilience, self-awareness, and the ability to seek help when needed.
Strong men recognize the importance of taking care of their mental well-being, understanding that it's not a sign of weakness to ask for support or seek therapy.
By addressing their mental health proactively, strong men set an example for others and contribute to breaking down harmful stereotypes surrounding masculinity and emotional expression.
True strength and resilience is demonstrated not by hiding one's problems and struggles, but by being vulnerable and open about them.
Strong, capable men are often socialized to bottle up their emotions and difficulties, but we need to challenge that notion.
A strong man is one who can acknowledge his problems and share them with others, rather than trying to maintain a facade of perfection or toughness.
🇰🇪
Men, never forget you are valued, worthy, and deserving of support.
Regardless of societal expectations or pressures, men are inherently valuable and deserving of respect, care, and support. It acknowledges the unique challenges that men may face in terms of expressing emotions or seeking help for mental health issues due to cultural or gender norms.
"Valued" highlights that men are important and contribute significantly to their families, communities, and society as a whole. It's essential for men to recognize their worth beyond traditional measures of success or masculinity.
"Worthy" emphasizes that every man deserves to lead a fulfilling and healthy life, free from the burden of mental health struggles or societal expectations. It's a reminder that self-worth isn't tied to accomplishments or stoicism but is an inherent aspect of being human.
"Deserving of support" underscores the importance of reaching out for help when needed. Men may often feel pressure to handle their problems independently, but it's vital to recognize that seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness. Whether it's from friends, family, or mental health professionals, everyone deserves to have a support system to lean on during difficult times.
Finally, "Your mental health matters" emphasizes the significance of prioritizing mental well-being. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and ignoring it can have serious consequences. By acknowledging the importance of mental health, men can break down barriers, seek help when necessary, and lead happier, healthier lives.

It is important to raise awareness about cancer survivors for a variety of reasons. In addition to honoring the fortitude and tenacity of people who have faced cancer, it informs the public about the difficulties faced by survivors both during and after treatment.
Campaigns to raise awareness might emphasize the value of survivorship care plans, access to high-quality healthcare, support systems, and continuing research to improve treatments and outcomes for survivors.
We can empower survivors and enhance their quality of life by exchanging survivor experiences and advocating for survivor-centric policies and resources.

The Nakuru Regional Cancer Centre was a beautifully concept. When the centre begun it was hard to fathom what the centre would eventually look like.
I remember looking at the initial designs on paper and wondering how it would all be set up. How would it look? Would we ever have radiotherapy services in Nakuru?
In 2018 we could only offer chemotherapy services, imaging, surgical and pathology services.
Working in this centre noting the strides made and the lives touched, is my reason for going to work daily.
It is really a dream come true today to have been present as discussions on system strengthening are made to help ensure the second radiotherapy machine is operationalized
