“Dosa” a well-known dish in the homes of Sri Lanka ♥️

The crispy dosa has been around since the 5th century AD.

A dosa is a thin savory crepe made from a fermented batter of ground black lentils and rice. Made by soaking/blending black gram lentils (urad dal) and rice to a batter. Then the fermented batter is spread like a crepe on a hot griddle or tawa.

Dosas are served hot, often with chutney and sambar, it’s high in carbohydrates and contains no added sugars or saturated fats.

Dosas are famous for its simple ingredients and savory, slightly bitter flavor. It can be eaten as a snack, breakfast, or anytime you're in the mood for a delicious, savory meal!

“Hoppers” or “Appam” a loving dish widely known in SriLanka ♥️

“Appam” is a fermented batter made of rice flour, and coconut milk can be either subtly sweet unlike the dosa. Egg hoppers have an egg cooked in them, but you can choose not to make these. When cooked, a hopper resembles that of a bowl with crisp, golden edges and a fluffy center. “Appam” tastes great only when you have it warm or hot!

Sri Lanka became a hopper-loving nation in no time 😍

“String hopper” or “Idiyappam”
a common SriLankan Dish ♥️

That has originated more than 2000 years ago traditionally made with red rice, quinoa or millet flour
and water. Served deliciously as breakfast/dinner. A healthy bonus for you and me! 🌟

It is made using either steamed Wheat flour or Roasted rice flour dough that is pressed through the mould to form thin thread like noodles that is woven in circles ideally over mini wicker mats and then steamed to perfection!

It is brought with steamed dhal curry, fresh coconut sambal, and potato curry! 🥥

“Kothu” a National Sri-Lankan Dish ♥️

Though the concept may be simplistic, Kothu Roti has a history as rich as its taste. It began in the 1970s as a delicious blend of diced paratha.

Kothu, is made up of paratha or wheat flour roti, which is cut into small pieces or ribbons. Then on a heated iron sheet or griddle, vegetables and onions are fried. Eggs, cooked meat, or fish are combined to fried vegetables and heated for a few minutes. Finally, the pieces of cut paratha are added and finished with a scoop of the tastiest chicken gravy…
