There are two rows of 54 statues flanking the causeway that leads to the entry tower. The entrance tower is dominated by large, peaceful sandstone carved faces of Lokesvara. This is the South gate of the ancient city of Angkor Thom, which is surrounded by a moat built to defend the city.

Cambodian pottery traditions date back to 5000 BCE. During that time, ceramics primarily served domestic purposes, such as containing and storing food and water.
