Khaleejesque is a lifestyle magazine with a strong focus on the Arab Gulf and it's continuous evolving cultural scene. What does “Khaleejesque” mean?
A twist to the word gulf in Arabic “Khaleej” and a play on words with the suffix “esque”; we’re the Gulf answer to Arabesque, but instead we are Khaleejesque. They still didn’t link us with a railway system and a Gulf-specific currency seems to be pending ever since we can remember, but one thing’s for sure, Khaleejesque will keep locals and curious international readers all connected and in the know. Meet VCUarts Qatar graduate, Abdulrahman AlMuftah, a creative who is passionate about conserving the earth’s natural resources.
His MFA thesis was about regional Islamic pre-prayer rituals inspired by traditional Qatari remedies and wellness practices. His thorough research helped Abdulrahman launch his skincare brand Allum in February 2023.
His other conversations with nature include creating art pieces from sculpted limestone and live greenery. With many unconventional ideas, you must keep an eye out for Abdulrahman’s future experiments with nature.

Meet VCUarts Qatar graduate, Shainah Dane Juras, who after a visit to the multi-storied accommodations where immigrant staff live, felt motivated to help elevate their living standards.
For her senior thesis, Shainah developed a proposal for community housing and furniture solutions for small spaces, incorporating biophilic design and modular furniture that can be assembled in different ways. She created a kit that residents could assemble to make one, two, or three pieces of furniture with ease.
